Exploring Hindu Philosophy points to some of the diverse tapestries of Hindu worldviews where scriptural revelation, logical argumentation, embodied affectivity, moral reasoning, and aesthetic cultivation constitute densely interwoven conceptual threads. This introductory text begins with an exploration of some classical iterations of the quest for a fundamental ontology amid the diversities of the everyday world. This quest is often embedded in both a diagnosis of the human condition as structured by suffering and a therapy for recovery from worldly fragmentation. A crucial aspect of this therapeutic structure is the analysis of the means of knowledge and the categories of reality, since in order to know the nature of the world, one must proceed along truth-tracking routes. Such dynamic mind-world encounters are mediated through language, and Hindu philosophical texts extensively discuss the motif of whether or not deep reality can be comprehended through linguistic structures. These philosophical exercises also shape reflections on themes such as aesthetics, social organization, the meaning of life, and so on. As Hinduism increasingly migrates to Western locations through practices of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness along with sensibilities relating to vegetarianism, ecology, and pacifism, we encounter multiple translations of these classical motifs relating to the self, language, and consciousness.

DHARMA and RELIGION are altogether different conceptions. Even as per the Oxford dictionary, ‘DHARMA’ means “eternal law of Universe” whereas ‘RELIGION’ means “a particular way of worship and faith.” All of these rules, laws etc. [pertaining to Dharma] have been observed, understood and realised by the people known as Hindu and hence Dharma is known as Hindu Dharma. However, these rules-laws etc. are applicable to every human being (Manav) all over the world (Vishwa), not confined only to Hindus. Hence, Hindu Dharma is Manav Dharma or Vishwa Dharma – the global ethics applicable to the entire humankind. If we look at the things which are considered as very sacred/pious in Hindu Dharma, it can be seen that each one of them possesses special qualities which are quite unique and useful for humankind. The Hindu Sanskriti has a special feature of wishing the well-being of ALL human beings (not just Hindus).

A book that explores both the 'Whats' and the 'Whys' of the philosophical ideas contained in Hinduism. A lucid, logical and practicable description of the journey through Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gyan Yoga. This book will appeal to you for two particular reasons -1. It does a wonderful job of distilling the philosophical concepts from the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Vivekachudamani and other ancient scriptures and puts them in a way that is very relevant in today's times.2. This book makes an honest attempt at explaining the Hindu philosophical theories in a very logical and well-reasoned manner rather than putting them as gospels. To achieve this, a Q&A structure has been employed where the Seeker is unwilling to take anything as gospel and thus asks questions until satisfied. The Guide answers these questions drawing from the various teachings of the Hindu philosophy. The conversation between the Seeker and the Guide takes you through a fascinating journey of Hindu philosophy bringing out the key principles and their relevance in modern times. You will be offered very practical and well-reasoned arguments behind the various teachings. In addition, throughout this book, you will find relevant quotations from ancient Hindu scriptures and commentaries by some esteemed Hindu monks. Filled with timeless wisdom, don't be surprised if you find yourself referring back this book time and again all through your life journey!Hope you enjoy the journey of a seeker...

Combining the philosophical-theoretical with the ethical-practical, Ithamar Theodor locates his study within comparative theology and identifies the various layers of meaning. The full text of the Bhagavad Gita is presented in new translation, divided into sections, and accompanied by in-depth commentary. This book makes the Bhagavad Gita accessible to a wide variety of readers, helping to make sense of this great spiritual classic which is one of the most important texts of religious Hinduism.

Tradition And Reflection written by Wilhelm Halbfass and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-01-01 with Religion categories.

This book examines, above all, the relationship between reason and Vedic revelation, and the philosophical responses to the idea of the Veda. It deals with such topics as dharma, karma and rebirth, the role of man in the universe, the motivation and justification of human actions, the relationship between ritual norms and universal ethics, and reflections on the goals and sources of human knowledge. Halbfass presents previously unknown materials concerning the history of sectarian movements, including the notorious “Thags” (thaka), and relations between Indian and Iranian thought. The approach is partly philosophical and partly historical and philological; to a certain extent, it is also comparative. The author explores indigenous Indian reflections on the sources, the structure and the meaning of the Hindu tradition, and traditional philosophical responses to social and historical realities. He does not deal with social and historical realities per se; rather, basing his work on the premise that to understand these realities the reflections and constructions of traditional Indian theorists are no less significant than the observations and paradigms of modern Western historians and social scientists, he explores the self-understanding of such leading thinkers as Sankara, Kumarila, Bhartrhari and Udayana.
