This introduction to first-order logic clearly works out the role of first-order logic in the foundations of mathematics, particularly the two basic questions of the range of the axiomatic method and of theorem-proving by machines. It covers several advanced topics not commonly treated in introductory texts, such as Fraïssé's characterization of elementary equivalence, Lindström's theorem on the maximality of first-order logic, and the fundamentals of logic programming.

This book introduces the properties of conservative extensions of First Order Logic (FOL) to new Intensional First Order Logic (IFOL). This extension allows for intensional semantics to be used for concepts, thus affording new and more intelligent IT systems. Insofar as it is conservative, it preserves software applications and constitutes a fundamental advance relative to the current RDB databases, Big Data with NewSQL, Constraint databases, P2P systems, and Semantic Web applications. Moreover, the many-valued version of IFOL can support the AI applications based on many-valued logics.

Probabilistic Extensions Of Various Logical Systems written by Zoran Ognjanović and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-17 with Computers categories.
The contributions in this book survey results on combinations of probabilistic and various other classical, temporal and justification logical systems. Formal languages of these logics are extended with probabilistic operators. The aim is to provide a systematic overview and an accessible presentation of mathematical techniques used to obtain results on formalization, completeness, compactness and decidability. The book will be of value to researchers in logic and it can be used as a supplementary text in graduate courses on non-classical logics.

A First Course In Logic written by Shawn Hedman and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-07-08 with Mathematics categories.
The ability to reason and think in a logical manner forms the basis of learning for most mathematics, computer science, philosophy and logic students. Based on the author's teaching notes at the University of Maryland and aimed at a broad audience, this text covers the fundamental topics in classical logic in an extremely clear, thorough and accurate style that is accessible to all the above. Covering propositional logic, first-order logic, and second-order logic, as well as proof theory, computability theory, and model theory, the text also contains numerous carefully graded exercises and is ideal for a first or refresher course.

Computer Science Logic written by Dirk van Dalen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-06-18 with Computers categories.
The related fields of fractal image encoding and fractal image analysis have blossomed in recent years. This book, originating from a NATO Advanced Study Institute held in 1995, presents work by leading researchers. It is developing the subjects at an introductory level, but it also has some recent and exciting results in both fields. The book contains a thorough discussion of fractal image compression and decompression, including both continuous and discrete formulations, vector space and hierarchical methods, and algorithmic optimizations. The book also discusses multifractal approaches to image analysis, segmentation, and recognition, including medical applications.

Fragments Of First Order Logic written by Ian Pratt-Hartmann and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Mathematics categories.
Pratt-Hartmann considers for which fragments of first-order logic there is an effective method for determining satisfiability or finite satisfiability. Furthermore, he asks, if these problems are decidable for some fragment, what is their computational complexity?

It is with great pleasure that we are presenting to the community the second edition of this extraordinary handbook. It has been over 15 years since the publication of the first edition and there have been great changes in the landscape of philosophical logic since then. The first edition has proved invaluable to generations of students and researchers in formal philosophy and language, as well as to consumers of logic in many applied areas. The main logic article in the Encyclopaedia Britannica 1999 has described the first edition as 'the best starting point for exploring any of the topics in logic'. We are confident that the second edition will prove to be just as good. ! The first edition was the second handbook published for the logic commu nity. It followed the North Holland one volume Handbook of Mathematical Logic, published in 1977, edited by the late Jon Barwise, The four volume Handbook of Philosophical Logic, published 1983-1989 came at a fortunate temporal junction at the evolution of logic. This was the time when logic was gaining ground in computer science and artificial intelligence circles. These areas were under increasing commercial pressure to provide devices which help and/or replace the human in his daily activity. This pressure required the use of logic in the modelling of human activity and organisa tion on the one hand and to provide the theoretical basis for the computer program constructs on the other.

This study introduces some central ideas and lines of research in finite model theory - particularly bounded variable infinitary logics - and explores the fruitful exchange between ideas from logic and from complexity theory that is characteristic of finite model theory.
