A national bestselling author examines one of the mind's most exalted states—one that is crucially important to learning, risk-taking, social cohesiveness, and survival itself. “[Jamison is] that rare writer who can offer a kind of unified field theory of science and art.” —The Washington Post Book World With the same grace and breadth of learning she brought to her studies of the mind’s pathologies, Kay Redfield Jamison examines one of its most exalted states: exuberance. This “abounding, ebullient, effervescent emotion” manifests itself everywhere from child’s play to scientific breakthrough. Exuberance: The Passion for Life introduces us to such notably irrepressible types as Teddy Roosevelt, John Muir, and Richard Feynman, as well as Peter Pan, dancing porcupines, and Charles Schulz’s Snoopy. It explores whether exuberance can be inherited, parses its neurochemical grammar, and documents the methods people have used to stimulate it. The resulting book is an irresistible fusion of science and soul.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Exuberance is an abounding, ebullient, and effervescent emotion. It is not happiness, but it is a more restless and billowing state. It is not a quiet sense of contentment, but rather exuberance that leaps, bubbles, and overflows. #2 Exuberance, the more energetic form of joy, is essential to our existence. It is a material part of our pursuits, and it is a vibrant force to signal victory, proclaim a time to quicken, to draw together, and to exult. #3 Exuberance is a wonderful thing, but it can also be calamitous. It is a defining quality of great teachers, statesmen, and adventurers. Used properly, it can bring about change and hope. #4 Roosevelt’s life in politics was abruptly broken when his wife and mother died in 1884. He threw himself into reform work, and became a gale force in Washington.

Irrational Exuberance written by Robert J. Shiller and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-16 with Business & Economics categories.

Why the irrational exuberance of investors hasn't disappeared since the financial crisis In this revised, updated, and expanded edition of his New York Times bestseller, Nobel Prize–winning economist Robert Shiller, who warned of both the tech and housing bubbles, cautions that signs of irrational exuberance among investors have only increased since the 2008–9 financial crisis. With high stock and bond prices and the rising cost of housing, the post-subprime boom may well turn out to be another illustration of Shiller's influential argument that psychologically driven volatility is an inherent characteristic of all asset markets. In other words, Irrational Exuberance is as relevant as ever. Previous editions covered the stock and housing markets—and famously predicted their crashes. This edition expands its coverage to include the bond market, so that the book now addresses all of the major investment markets. It also includes updated data throughout, as well as Shiller's 2013 Nobel Prize lecture, which places the book in broader context. In addition to diagnosing the causes of asset bubbles, Irrational Exuberance recommends urgent policy changes to lessen their likelihood and severity—and suggests ways that individuals can decrease their risk before the next bubble bursts. No one whose future depends on a retirement account, a house, or other investments can afford not to read this book.

The Development of Social Engagement, edited by Peter J. Marshall and Nathan A. Fox, brings together some of the latest research on social engagement processes across a range of life stages and species. The opening chapters provide overviews of cutting-edge research on social engagement in areas such as temperament, face processing, joint attention, language development, and early social cognition in humans. Subsequent chapters address questions related to biological determinants of social systems, play, and maternal behavior across a variety of species, as well as evolutionary issues associated with social engagement. Finally, a number of chapters examine the application of rigorous biologically focused research paradigms to the study of atypical social engagement in children. Atypical social engagement is framed in terms of disorders such as autism and Williams Syndrome, as well as in the effects of adverse early rearing environments such as institutions. This volume will be a valuable guide for those interested in a neurobiological approach to the study of social development. It provides an introduction to current research directions in this rapidly expanding field for both student and professional researchers in developmental psychology, comparative psychology, and developmental psychopathology.

Moving Forward In The Study Of Temperament And Early Education Outcomes written by Cynthia L. Smith and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-29 with Education categories.

This book furthers understanding of how child temperament is linked to educational outcomes through mediating and moderating factors. As the importance of socio-emotional development for educational outcomes is increasingly recognized, understanding the influence that children’s temperament—which includes their emotional reactivity and regulation of emotions, cognitions, and behaviors—can have on educational factors, such as school readiness and academic achievement, is crucial. First, the chapters in this book examine pathways connecting temperament with educational outcomes; for example, one study reports that toddler negative affect predicted executive functioning, which then predicted achievement at age six. The second way that chapters in this book examine links between temperament and education is by identifying factors that make associations between temperament and educational outcomes more salient; for example, findings from one study show that shyness and negative emotion were more strongly associated with lower academic achievement only when children received fewer than nine hours of sleep each night, highlighting the importance of sleep. By examining pathways through which temperament exerts effects on educational outcomes (i.e., mediators), or factors that modify associations between temperament and educational outcomes (i.e., moderators), the potential for interventions aimed at improving early educational outcomes can be fully realized. This book was originally published as a special issue of Early Education and Development.

The Swing Traders Bible written by Matthew McCall and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-29 with Business & Economics categories.

The Swing Trader's Bible provides traders with different strategies to capitalize on market fluctuations. The majority of the time, most markets move sideways, with no discernible long-term up or down trend. The key to making money in these kinds of markets is to sell when the market is near the top of its range and buy when it's near the bottom of its range. The authors explain how to use fundamental stock analysis and technical analysis to spot swing trading opportunities. They then provide very specific techniques for entering and exiting the market, including: channel analysis; momentum indicators; stock sector leaders/followers; market cycles; overbought/oversold indicators; trading volume; and money flows. The authors explain how to swing trade by taking outright positions in stocks or by using various options strategies. Most of the book is devoted to swing trading using individual stocks, but the authors also explain swing trading opportunities in stock indexes and in exchange-traded funds.
