When we encounter human suffering or personal tragedy, Christians and non-Christians alike utter the same refrain: Where is God? If God exists, then where in the world is he? Why doesn’t he show himself? And how can we tell if God is really working or not? Tim Muehlhoff gives us insight into recognizing how God is at work in the world. He unpacks the doctrine of common grace to uncover how God works in ways that we don't always realize. If we have a limited idea of what divine action looks like—dramatic answers to prayer, healings with no medical explanation, financial needs being met unexpectedly—then we miss seeing how God acts through common grace in ordinary, everyday ways such as antibiotics, financial planners, and thoughtful friends. Muehlhoff offers dozens of illustrations from contemporary culture to help us understand and communicate how God is present and acting in the world today. Discover how God cares for our troubled world as he gives you the eyes to see.

Eyes To See written by Michael Land and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-15 with Science categories.

Vision is the sense by which we and other animals obtain most of our information about the world around us. Darwin appreciated that at first sight it seems absurd that the human eye could have evolved by natural selection. But we now know far more about vision, the many times it has independently evolved in nature, and the astonishing variety of ways to see. The human eye, with a lens forming an image on a sensitive retina, represents just one. Scallops, shrimps, and lobsters all use mirrors in different ways. Jumping spiders scan with their front-facing eyes to check whether the object in front is an insect to eat, another spider to mate with, or a predator to avoid. Mantis shrimps can even measure the polarization of light. Animal eyes are amazing structures, often involving precision optics and impressive information processing, mainly using wet protein - not the substance an engineer would choose for such tasks. In Eyes to See, Michael Land, one of the leading world experts on vision, explores the varied ways in which sight has evolved and is used in the natural world, and describes some of the ingenious experiments researchers have used to uncover its secrets. He also discusses human vision, including his experiments on how our eye movements help us to do everyday tasks, as well as skilled ones such as sight-reading music or driving. He ends by considering the fascinating problem of how the constantly shifting images from our eyes are converted in the brain into the steady and integrated conscious view of the world we experience.

Now My Eyes Have Seen You written by Robert Fyall and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-07-15 with Religion categories.

'Now my eyes have seen you." (Job 42:5) Few biblical texts are more daunting, and yet more fascinating, than the book of Job—and few have been the subject of such diverse interpretation. For Robert Fyall, the mystery of God's ways and the appalling evil and suffering in the world are at the heart of Job's significant contribution to the canon of Scripture. This New Studies in Biblical Theology volume offers a holistic reading of Job, with particular reference to its depiction of creation and evil, and finds significant clues to its meaning in the striking imagery it uses. Fyall takes seriously the literary and artistic integrity of the book of Job, as well as its theological profundity. He concludes that it is not so much about suffering per se as about creation, providence and knowing God, and how—n the crucible of suffering—these are to be understood. He encourages us to listen to this remarkable literature, to be moved by it, and to see its progress from shrieking protest to repentence and vision. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Eyes That See Ears That Hear written by James P. Danaher and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Postmodernism categories.

In his book, James Danaher successfully shows that a post-modern perspective, which questions the cultural, historical, and linguistic presuppositions involved in interpreting the Gospels, frees us to hear anew the culturally subversive, yet ultimately transformative message of Jesus' Good News. The author carefully uses postmodern insights to illustrate that what we see in the Gospels is largely a product of how we see, and how we see comes from our social constructs, not what we interpret to be God's objective revelation. Intended for Christians who are looking to understand Jesus in light of a postmodern perspective, as well as unchurched people who are interested in Jesus but having difficulty with the way the Gospel is culturally interpreted. Paperback Testimonials "Seldom have I read such a combination of stellar intelligence, simple clarity, and a 'heart' understanding of Jesus and the Gospels. This book could resolve many people's faith questions and concerns. Jim Danaher talks with humility, honestly, and orthodoxy at the same time-which is rare today." --Richard Rohr "This type of text I would use in my Christology or Post-Modern classes. It's accessible for the college undergraduate while remaining critical and engaging." --Jay Hammond

In this groundbreaking urban fantasy series from New York Times bestseller Joseph Nassise, a grieving father makes a desperate bargain with forces beyond his control, revealing the supernatural world he'll need to survive in order to rescue the daughter who vanished into its dark depths several years before. "Gritty, grim, yet surprisingly personal and poetic, Eyes to See is like nothing else in its field. Make time for this one." —Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author of the October Daye and Incryptid series “Brings urban fantasy to a new level. Heartbreaking, deeply insightful, powerful, and genuinely thrilling. Joe Nassise has just raised the bar for the whole genre.” —Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of the Joe Ledger series "I gave up my eyes to see more clearly." Harvard professor Jeremiah Hunt's life fell apart in the wake of his daughter's disappearance. His obsessive search for her cost him his wife, his job, and his reputation. And now, thanks to a Faustian bargain he makes with the empty-eyed and enigmatic Preacher, it takes his sight as well. In return, he's granted the gift of seeing what others cannot; ghosts and other supernatural creatures of the night. With the help of his ghostly companions – Whisper and Scream – he embarks on a new career banishing malevolent spirits that torment the living while continuing his search for clues to Elizabeth's fate. What begins as a search for his daughter turns deadly when a particularly cunning foe lays a trap that ends with Hunt accused of a series of brutal murders. Now Hunt must fight not only to save his daughter's life but his own as well, against a dark and ageless foe that would use a father's love to set itself free.
