Inhaltsangabe:Introducción: El consumo de drogas lícitas e ilícitas es un problema importante en muchos países puesto que acarrea una serie de consecuencias sobre la convivencia social, la seguridad y el bienestar de las personas. El consumo repercute así directamente sobre las bases sociales, culturales, político-administrativas y económicas de un país, constituyendo un ‘potencial peligro para sus objetivos de desarrollo, crecimiento y su democracia’. Por ejemplo, sólo el consumo de alcohol, principal problema de salud pública en Chile, genera al país una pérdida anual de 1.800 millones de dólares por la menor productividad, las muertes prematuras y el gasto médico social que ocasiona. Por ello, la intervención social o prevención y, antes que ella, la generación de información sobre la base de estudios científicos, al atender una problemática social de relevancia, constituye una actividad primordial permitiendo orientar las políticas preventivas y correctivas frente a la oferta y demanda de drogas. En ese sentido, diversas investigaciones han corroborado que el consumo de drogas lícitas e ilícitas es un fenómeno presente en todos los estratos sociales y que no se diferencia mayormente según el sexo de las personas. Las evidencias recogidas arrojan como resultado una serie de tendencias hacia fines de la última década, tales como el aumento de la población consumidora, la incorporación de drogas nuevas, un creciente consumo juvenil, así como una iniciación cada vez más temprana en el consumo. Diferentas han sido las perspectivas con las que se ha abordado el consumo de drogas a lo largo de las últimas cinco décadas, pero en el último tiempo, la mayoría han confluido a aceptar que el consumo de drogas es una problemática muy abierta en la que los múltiples factores, individuales psicológicos, sociales y culturales que intervienen no permiten, en general, efectuar una explicación de causalidad del fenómeno. Debido a esta complejidad, los estudios se han referido a poblaciones específicas, tales como grupo de trabajadores, escolares, universitarios, etc., o bien, han focalizado la mirada sobre una fase o modalidad particular de consumo, a saber, la iniciación, el consumo ocasional, el consumo habitual, abusivo, dependiente, la abstención al consumo y la reincidencia. De este modo, han logrado asociar, a determinadas conductas de consumo, algunos factores en particular, válidos para esas poblaciones o esas modalidades de consumo. Asimismo, se puede [...]
