Dieser erwirtschaften 35,9 Prozent des gesamten Umsatzes. Die Wirtschaftskraft des Mittelstandes wird dadurch unterstrichen, dass 83,2 % der deutschen Auszubildenden in mittelständischen Unternehmen eingestellt sind sowie 79 % aller Beschäftigten in Deutschland dem Mittelstand angehören. Trotz der genannten Zahlen sowie einer Steigerung des Umsatzvolumens und guter Auftragslage hat der deutsche Mittelstand zunehmend auch mit vielfältigen Proble-men zu kämpfen. Spannungsfelder ergeben sich vor allem in der Finanzierungssituation. Finanzierungsprobleme, eine unzureichende Finanzplanung sowie Schwierigkeiten im Finanzmanagement führen verbreitet zu Liquiditätsproblemen bis hin zu Insolvenzen im Mittelstand. Denn neben der Zurückhaltung der Geschäftsbanken in der traditionellen Vergabe von kurzfristigem Fremdkapital können die Formen der klassischen Mittelstandsfinanzierung, wie eben die Kreditvergabe und die Eigenfinanzierung, oft-mals nur begrenzt eingesetzt werden. Insbesondere die Basler Bankenregulierungen erschweren den Unternehmen den Zugang zu Krediten, vor allem auf Grund von Boni-tätsprüfungen und den davon abhängigen Kreditzinsen. Deshalb ist es für mittelständische Unternehmen notwendig nach alternativen Finanzierungsinstrumenten zu su-chen. Eine dieser alternativen Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten, welche in den letzten Jahren zunehmend an Interesse des Mittelstandes gewinnt, ist das Factoring. Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist aufzuzeigen, wie im deutschen Mittelstand Factoring als alternative Finanzierungsform genutzt werden kann. Ferner werden die Potenziale und Auswirkungen von Factoring auf mittelständische Unternehmen untersucht sowie Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten des Mittelstandes unter Einsatz von Factoring aufgezeigt.
