The proliferation of handheld devices and the high-speed mobile network have created another revolution in the world of commerce. Despite the continuous emerging payment solutions and abundant facilitating technologies, the level of mobile payment system adoption is quite low. Researchers focused their attention mainly on mobile payment business model and mobile payment software/infrastructures architectures with relatively little attention paid to the factors influencing the adoption. Moreover, researchers paid very little attention on issues regarding mobile payment system adoption in developing countries. Accordingly, this study examined the factors that determine the adoption of mobile payment system and how their influence differs by gender of the students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used with three additional variables to form the conceptual model. The study was conducted in three Universities in Kano state, Nigeria. Purposive sampling method was used with a total valid 214 respondents which involved the students of Bayero University Kano (BUK), North-West University, and Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, Kano, Nigeria. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), perceived compatibility (PC) and social norm (SN) have significant and positive correlation with the behavioural intention to adopt mobile payment system. The findings from the independent t-test also revealed that there is a significant difference on the influence of PEOU and SN among the gender of the students with male having high perceived ease use (PEOU) over female counterpart, while social norm (SN) influences female more than their male counterpart in adopting mobile payment. The study provided empirical support of the background theory outside the context of developed countries and contributed significantly to the existing literature in the field of mobile payment. Secondly, the study provided input about the critical success factors of the adoption of mobile payment system among mobile users. Thirdly, the study will help authorities to make relevant adjustments regarding the cashless-policy to make it more effective in the economy.

Objective- Rapid advances in financial technology have tremendously changed both the way of life and the way of doing business over recent decades. The ubiquitous usage of the internet is fostering new forms of enterprise. Mobile payment is a new way to conveniently and effectively conduct financial transactions through digital platforms. This study analyzes the factors influencing the adoption of mobile payments as a method of payment utilized by Gen-eration Z. Generation Z represents the successor of the generation of our society and the gen-eration that interacts the most with internet technology.Design/methodology- Using the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, this study sampled 100 respondents of Generation Z from Ja-karta and surrounding areas (JABODETABEK) and further analyzed using the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). Results - The results show that factors relating to Performance Expectancy, Social Influ-ences, Facilitating Condition, Perceived Enjoyment, and Trust significantly affect the Behav-ioral Intention to use mobile payments to conduct online transactions. Effort Expectancy shows no significant effect.Contribution - This study provided the evidence about the factors influencing the Gener-ation Z's intention behavior to adopt mobile payment technology as a tool in online purchasing, using the extended UTAUT model. This stems from extended UTAUT and applies it to explore how the Behavioral Intention of Generation Z in adopting mobile payment technology.

Different variations of mobile payment methods emerged aiming to change customers' behaviour and to engage potential buyers even more into retail processes. Pervasive information systems, such as smartphones, are integrated in order to deliver these payment solutions. However, history has shown that technology diffusion processes often take longer than initially expected. The present thesis intended to increase the understanding of mobile payment adoption processes by taking the influence of information system pervasiveness into account. For this reason, a structural model was proposed based on the aggregated information gained in the theoretical fundament. Two specific mobile payment scenarios were defined to be further examined. A survey was conducted to collect the necessary data to apply partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) as method of analysis. In conclusion, perceived pervasiveness seems to be a valuable extension of classical constructs in technology acceptance research, innovation diffusion theory and risk perception research since it seems to increase the explanatory power of constructs such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived risk and especially compatibility.
