Instructing Beginners In Faith written by Augustine of Hippo and has been published by New City Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.

As with very many of Augustine’s works, Instructing Beginners in Faith is a response to a request, an answer to questions put to him by others. In this case we know from the first words of the work itself that the one making the request is named Deogratias (Augustine calls him “brother”), and a couple of lines later we learn that he is a deacon in Carthage, the principal city of Proconsular Africa, where he enjoys popularity as a teacher of the faith. In the most general terms, he wanted Augustine to send him “something in writing which might be of use to him on the question of instructing beginners in faith (de catechizandis rudibus)”. The term rudes in this expression referred specifically to people who were approaching the Church for the first time with the wish to become Christians. Instructing Beginners in Faith has been frequently and creatively adapted to serve the needs of education in faith in many different contexts, including the education of clergy and religious education more generally. The two model catecheses that Augustine sketches not only continue to have relevance today but also provide an important insight into his understanding of the use of scripture and tradition. Augustine's awareness of the problems that religious educators face demonstrates his profound grasp of the human condition. Written as a reflection on the most suitable way of communicating the heart of Christian faith to those applying for membership of the Church.

The acclaimed Catholic writer and apologist Frank Sheed presents one of the most clear and outstanding explanations of the central doctrines of the Christian faith ever written. He starts with a compelling case of good reasons for anyone to study theology, and the wonderful rewards that accompany such a pursuit. After explaining how God is Spirit, Sheed examines God's infinity and man's creation from nothing. He then covers in depth such key doctrines as the Trinity, the Fall, the Incarnation and Redemption, the Mystical Body, Grace and the Sacraments, and the Last Things. For those to whom these doctrines seem formidable, Sheed brings a fresh approach with lucid and carefully reasoned prose. His beautiful insights and clear explanations will help stir our minds to the inspiring truth of the spiritual realities at the center of human existence.

The Apostles' and Nicene Creeds are prayers most Catholics take for granted. We pray them by rote when we say the rosary or go to Mass--often without thinking about or fully understanding what we're saying. Providing you with this understanding is what The Faith for Beginners is all about. It's a fascinating romp through the history of the Creeds, closely examining what we believe and why--with references to Scripture, the Church Fathers, and Church councils. You'll learn about heresies, persecutions, and theological disagreements that forced the Church to more carefully define our beliefs and add them to the Creeds. Here's some of what you'll discover in the pages of The Faith for Beginners: Where the word creed comes from and what it means Why the Catholic Church has a creed while many other religions don't and seem to get along just fine without them Four crucial functions served by the Creed Why the Creed was so vital to the building of the Church Seven common objections to the Creed--and how to answer each one
