Why does religion sometimes increase support for democracy and sometimes do just the opposite? In Faith in Numbers, political scientist Michael Hoffman presents a theory of religion, group interest, and democracy. Focusing on communal religion, he demonstrates that the effect of communal prayer on support for democracy depends on the interests of the religious group in question. For members of groups who would benefit from democracy, communal prayer increases support for democratic institutions; for citizens whose groups would lose privileges in the event of democratic reforms, the opposite effect is present. Using a variety of data sources, Hoffman illustrates these claims in multiple contexts. He places particular emphasis on his study of Lebanon and Iraq, two countries in which sectarian divisions have played a major role in political development, by utilizing both existing and original surveys. By examining religious and political preferences among both Muslims and non-Muslims in several religiously diverse settings, Faith in Numbers shows that theological explanations of religion and democracy are inadequate. Rather, it demonstrates that religious identities and sectarian interests play a major part in determining regime preferences and illustrates how Islam in particular can be mobilized for both pro- and anti-democratic purposes. It finds that Muslim religious practice is not necessarily anti-democratic; in fact, in a number of settings, practicing Muslims are considerably more supportive of democracy than their secular counterparts. Theological differences alone do not determine whether members of religious groups tend to support or oppose democracy; rather, their participation in communal worship motivates them to view democracy through a sectarian lens.

And any Pastor who has taught a Bible class has had someone ask about the significance of these numbers. Rev. Eichinger's work brings faithful, grace-filled clarity to these numbers. Eichinger tackles the numbers in Scripture from the unique perspective of the Six Chief Parts of Luther's Small Catechism and uses the repeating numbers of Scripture to teach God's children His grace, mercy, and love. Master Numbers written by Faith Javane and has been published by Schiffer Pub Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Never before have the master numbers - 11, 22, 33, through 99 - been examined in such depth and detail. Faith Javane, one of the most respected numerologists in the country, reveals the significance of these power indicators, both in our personal lives and in a historical and cosmic sense. She looks at the progression of the master numbers as the journey the soul takes as it seeks to master the different levels of understanding. Javane also analyzes the two single-digit numbers that, when added together, equal a master number, for example 2+9=11. These numbers within numbers "test" how well we have learned the lessons of the master numbers and whether we are ready to move on to the next level.

Praying Through Numbers written by Troy Schmidt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-29 with Religion categories.

The book of Numbers got its name because of the census taken of the Israelites two years after they left Egypt. The head count revealed over 600,000 men twenty or older, putting estimates as to the total number of men, women and children at nearly two million. That's a massive amount of people to keep track of and to lead through a wilderness. But God did it. By his power, effective leadership and obedience the impossible could happen. However, the people lacked faith. In Numbers, things add up if the people trusted God, but they wanted to do their own math and grumbled all along the way. Even Moses failed to follow accurately and paid the price. An entire generation lost faith and as a result lost the opportunity to see the Promised Land. Numbers covers thirty-eight years of needless wandering that could have been avoided if the people only trusted God. As you read Numbers, examine your own faith and your obedience to his commands. If you do, God will fight your battles and lead you to a better place. If you follow God closely, the odds will always be on your side. PRAYING THROUGH THE BIBLE SERIES What is God's word? Simply put, it is the word of God spoken to people long ago who transcribed that information into writing. That writing was meticulously passed down for thousands of years to speak to us today. How did God speak to people in Bible times? * Audibly - God spoke directly to people who heard him with their ears or in their heart.* Through situations - God spoke through the actions and events of this world.* Through people - God spoke through leaders, kings and prophets who proclaimed God's purpose.* Through prophecy - God spoke about future events, then those events happened.* Scripture - God spoke through his written word when people read those words later.* Prayer - God spoke through the prayers of people. PRAYING THROUGH NUMBERS recognizes the power of God speaking to mankind through His Scriptures. God's word was not only meant to be read, but applied. We must apply ourselves to these passages and adjust our lives to God's will.Today, God uses many ways to speak to us. This book incorporates those avenues of communication to ensure that God will speak to you during your quiet time with Him. Each section asks the reader to do six things.1. Read the passage. Open up the Bible and read His Word.2. Memorize the passage. A certain verse is given special focus. Commit it to memory. Remember it all day.3. Understand the passage. Background information (Time, Characters, Place, What's Happening) help you to understand the context of the section you are reading.4. Read the prayer. Read the written prayers as if they were from your heart. Don't recite them as words from a page, but a plea from your soul.5. Keep praying. Prayer prompts are there to help you continue praying about other specific areas. Listen to the Holy Spirit and see if there is more you need to pray.6. Journal your thoughts. In the space provided, write down some thoughts that you feel God said to your during this time. Every so often I've included a "Prayer Thoughts" page to give you more room to journal your thoughts and write down prayer requests as you go through the Bible. Get ready to spend some quality time with God. Get ready for God to speak to you through His Word.
