***Purchase includes a free online course on faith*** What do you do when your newfound faith is challenged by those closest to you? Peter Daniel Young is about to find out. Convinced he was called by the good Lord to train to be a minister, Peter is caught in a poetic downpour driving back home again—the last place he ever thought he would end up. But soon after returning to his hometown, he is caught in the tension of his traditional parents, who are relentless with their questions; a brother who’s hit rock-bottom, and has walked away from the Church; new friends, who offer him welcomed support for his new spiritual direction; and a conservative professor, who challenges his beliefs at every turn. More troublesome yet: Peter begins to question whether the reimagined faith he carefully constructed to save his Christianity was what he needed in the first place — and he finds himself wondering whether there might be something more to the faith he left behind. Picking up the story immediately at the end of A Reimagined Faith, J. A. Bouma weaves a fresh, insightful spiritual story of resonance and truth to help a new generation wrestle through deep questions of faith, life, and everything in between. With shades of John Greene’s coming of age novels, combines with the poignance and insight of C. S. Lewis’s Mere Christianity and John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, it is the book he wished he’d had and his parents had during his own crisis of faith. Whether you are facing your own faith crisis and wonder if Christianity is still relevant to your world, or you know of someone who is struggling themselves, discover along with Peter what why the old, old story of Jesus and his love still matters. For him, his family and friends, the Church — and for you.

What is true faith? In The Power of Kingdom Faith, Dr. Myles Munroe strips away the common errors and misconceptions surrounding faith to reveal the nature, character, and power of true faith, or, Kingdom faith. Kingdom faith trusts not in the promises of God but in the God who promises; seeks not the blessings of God, but the God who blesses. Kingdom faith will always be tested, but because it places its trust in the King of the universe, will always prevail under testing. Kingdom faith, therefore is a triumphant faith that will overcome the world.

This is the first general comprehensive introduction to Manichaeism aimed at a non-specialist and undergraduate readership. This study will be a historical and theological introduction to Manichaeism. It will comprise a biographical treatment of the founder Mani, situating his personality, his writings and his ideas within the Aramaic Christian tradition of third century (CE) Mesopotamia. It will provide a historical treatment of the Manichaean church in late antiquity (250-700 CE), detailing the emergence of Manichaeism in the late Roman and Byzantine empires, in addition to examining the continuation of Manichaean traditions in the eastern world (China) up to the thirteenth century and beyond. The book will consider the theology of Mani's system, with the aim of providing a clear-eyed treatment of the cosmogonic, scriptural and ecclesiological ideas forming its foundations. The study will base its analysis on original Manichaean literary sources, together with rehabilitating the representation of Manichaeism in those writings that polemicised against the religion. The study will aim to demonstrate the highly syncretic nature of Manichaeism, and will look to move forward 'traditional' perceptions of the religion as being simply a form of Christian Gnostic Dualism.

Finding God In The Waves written by Mike McHargue and has been published by Convergent Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-13 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

A story about having faith, losing it, and finding it again through science—revealing how the latest in neuroscience, physics, and biology help us understand God, faith, and ourselves. Mike McHargue, host of The Liturgists and Ask Science Mike podcasts, understands the pain of unraveling belief. In Finding God in the Waves, Mike tells the story of how his Evangelical faith dissolved into atheism as he studied the Bible, a crisis that threatened his identity, his friendships, and even his marriage. Years later, Mike was standing on the shores of the Pacific Ocean when a bewildering, seemingly mystical moment motivated him to take another look. But this time, it wasn't theology or scripture that led him back to God—it was science. Full of insights about the universe, as well as deeply personal reflections on our desire for certainty and meaning, Finding God in the Waves is a vital exploration of the possibility for knowing God in an age of reason, and a signpost for where the practice of faith is headed in a secular age. Among other revelations, we learn what brain scans reveal about what happens when we pray; how fundamentalism affects the psyche; and how God is revealed not only in scripture, but also in the night sky, in subatomic particles, and in us.

Faith is, by definition, a belief in something without any evidence to support that belief. In search for a greater understanding of what faith is and for answers to the questions I begin to write this book. Not only to answer the questions I had myself but to help someone else who may be seeking the same answers as me.

Jobs Lost Faith Found written by Mary C. Lindberg and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-01 with Religion categories.

Companionship and strategies for job seekers Millions of people become unemployed every year, yet when job loss happens to us, we typically feel completely alone and often lost, ashamed, and afraid. No one knows how to comfort us when we lose our job. Unlike other griefs--when someone can say, "I'm sorry for your loss"--joblessness leaves family, friends, and acquaintances awkwardly searching for words. Jobs Lost, Faith Found is for those who feel alone due to job loss. It is also for those who offer respect, companionship, guidance, and resources to the unemployed. Mary C. Lindberg, pastor, chaplain, and spiritual director, draws on her family's experience of unemployment and the wisdom of many others, including sages from Scripture and the Christian tradition, to help readers discover a sense of worth and purpose on their way to a new job. She offers prayers, insights, Bible stories, and reflections to light the way during this time of uncertainty and wandering. The path toward hope will be your own, but the ideas, reflections, and strategies in this book will get you started on your journey.

One of America's foremost scholars of religion examines the tumultuous era that gave birth to the modern Judeo-Christian tradition In The Crucible of Faith, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE, during a turbulent "Crucible Era." It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam. Drawing widely on contemporary sources from outside the canonical Old and New Testaments, Jenkins reveals an era of political violence and social upheaval that ultimately gave birth to entirely new ideas about religion, the afterlife, Creation and the Fall, and the nature of God and Satan.

Renewed written by Robert P. Reed and has been published by Ave Maria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-20 with Religion categories.

In Renewed: Ten Ways to Rediscover the Saints, Embrace Your Gifts, and Revive Your Catholic Faith, Fr. Robert Reed—popular on-air host and president of the CatholicTV Network—issues a creative call to all Catholics to renew the Church by rediscovering the gifts of their faith. Reed profiles ten surprising pairs of saints who offer lessons in reviving faith, starting at the personal level and radiating outward to the wider Church. Fr. Robert Reed, of the Archdiocese of Boston, believes that the best remedy for discouraged Catholics is a reclaimed sense of the tradition’s riches as embodied in the lives of the saints. In this passionate call to renewal, he profiles twenty saints who, like Catholics today, lived in times of crises when the way forward was unclear. Reed creatively pairs saints who at first glance seem to be unlikely companions—Augustine and Joan of Arc, Athanasius and Mother Teresa—to suggest ways readers can begin the work of personal renewal that is essential for Church-wide change. In a down-to-earth and encouraging tone, Reed provides ten persuasive and practical lessons such as “Discover and Receive Your Gifts,” “Look beyond the Present Troubles” and “Live with a True Spirit of Joy.” Renewed is a practical plan for the revitalization of the Church that maps out steps for a grassroots awakening that every Catholic can undertake today.
