"The residents of the homes presented in this book are all celebrities from the world of art and design. These originals have not only made their marks in their own disciplines but have also developed an entirely original vision in their living environments. They are no fashion victims but prefer to pursue their own personal tastes. And that produces surprising, completely unique and markedly authentic interiors, varying from the remarkable steel 'barn' occupied by Dennis Hooper to the idiosyncratic 'baroque' interior of the designers who constitute The People of the Labyrinths." --Book Jacket.

The Decoration Of Houses written by Edith Wharton and has been published by Courier Dover Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-07 with Architecture categories.

Thousands of books on interior design have come and gone since the 1897 publication of this pioneering manual, but The Decoration of Houses remains, thanks to the insightful and inspiring advice of its co-authors. Before she became the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton was a society matron, remodeling a summer home in Newport, Rhode Island. With the able assistance of architect Ogden Codman, Jr., Wharton assembled this corrective to the rampant vulgarity of her nouveau riche neighbors. Wharton and Codman defied the excesses of the Gilded Age, counseling readers to reject the popular penchant for clutter in favor of simplicity and balance. More than an engaging item of period charm, this historic guide offers examples of design rooted in architectural principles. Black-and-white photographs illustrate the authors' ideals of classic beauty, depicting grand ballrooms and spacious boudoirs as well as the elements common to homes of every size and era: doors and windows, walls and ceilings, floors, halls, and stairs. One of the genre's most important and influential titles, this volume sparked a Renaissance in American interior design, and its sound advice and practical approach remain forever in style.

Interior Design Masters written by Mark Hinchman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-27 with Architecture categories.

Interior Design Masters contains 300 biographical entries of people who have significantly impacted design. They are the people, historical and contemporary, that students and practitioners should know. Coverage starts in the late Renaissance, with a focus on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The book has five sections, with the entries alphabetical in each, so it can serve as a history textbook and a reference guide. The seventeeth- and eighteenth-century section covers figures from Thomas Chippendale to Horace Walpole. The nineteenth-century section includes William Morris and Candace Wheeler. The early twentieth-century section presents modernism’s design heroes, including Marcel Breuer, Eileen Gray, and Gilbert Rohde. The post-World War II designers range from Madeleine Castaing to Raymond Loewy. The final contemporary section includes Ron Arad and the Bouroullec brothers. These are the canonical figures who belong to any design history. The book also contains less well-known figures who deserve attention, such as Betty Joel, the British art deco furniture designer; Paul Veysseyre, the Frenchman active in China in the 1930s; and more recently Lanzavecchia-Wai, the Italian-Singaporean duo whose work ranges from health care to helicopters. Global in its coverage, the book is richly illustrated with over 600 black-and-white and color photographs.

Charlotte Perriand written by Justin McGuirk and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Architecture categories.

An affordable, concise survey on the influential modernist designer's interiors, buildings, furniture and more, from a sawtooth ski resort to sculptural chaises longues From the onset of her career, Charlotte Perriand was a maverick who believed in good design as a force for the betterment of society. Many young designers would be devastated by a rejection from Le Corbusier's studio, but when the great architect told her they had no use for a female furniture designer, Perriand only became more determined to prove her mettle as an artist. Under Le Corbusier, and long after she left his studio, Perriand's contributions to both furniture design and architecture demonstrated a unique attention to the organic artistry of nature as well as the egalitarian possibilities of the machine age. Her leftwing populist politics motivated much of her work, from modular furniture systems to major architectural projects. This monograph explores Perriand's most famous interiors, original furniture and architectural projects, as well as her never-before-seen sketchbooks, shedding new light on her creative process and place in design history. Charlotte Perriand (1903-99) experienced the first breakthrough in her career with Le Bar sous le toit, a 1927 interior design piece that predicted the elegant minimalism and utilitarian nature of her future work. Although today she is perhaps best known for her early chaise longue designs, Perriand also created the plans for a number of major buildings across Europe and contributed interior designs to Le Corbusier's Unit d'habitation. She worked in places as diverse as Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and London in her pursuit of accessible design.

Creating Interior Atmosphere written by Jean Whitehead and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-14 with Architecture categories.

This book sets out to explore the creation of interior atmosphere as seen through the lens of mise-en-scène. You will learn how this film theory informs the concept of 'staged space' translated through the narrative and expressive qualities of a particular scene. Jean Whitehead quickly takes this concept beyond the screen and considers its application to the interior 'setting'. By learning to use the ingredients that inform an 'interior' mise-en-scène such as its backdrop, choice of props, use of special effects alongside the application of colour, pattern, graphics, light and shadow, an immersive atmospheric experience can be created. Packed with inspiring examples and case studies, ranging from cinematic interiors and art installations, to the work of notable interior designers, stylists and architects with an interior interest, this book broadens current thinking around the design of the decorated interior. It will help you to embrace the concepts that underpin an interior mise-en- scène through the use of softer decorative techniques and concerns.
