Although underfoot was sloppy and slippery, we were careful to watch where we stepped. Once again, the scenery caught us off guard. Beyond the well-traveled roads of the area is the history of an era in its quiet repose. The very first Welland Canal was part of that scene, hidden by brush and overgrowth and quietly reminding one of a much earlier time. Huge rocks cut from the local rock to form the walls of the canal were amazing. Stone overpasses beginning to break away and an old steel bridge standing silent in a now wasteland is a monument to a previous era.. As we continued, a jolt brought us back to the present, as we exited out of the woods to a path which skirted a beautiful, lush, green golf course. Todays world rejoined!

'Part Germaine Greer and part Mae West, she is not a woman you should spurn' Guardian 'Nell's distinctive voice, both written and spoken, has had a powerful and provocative place in Irish society ... fascinating ... evocative ... riveting' Irish Times Journalist Nell McCafferty has been an iconic figure in Ireland since the 1970s. Nell is the revealing story of the woman behind the image. Whether describing her challenging and tender relationship with her mother, Lily; her fears about being gay; war on the streets of her native Derry; the blossoming of feminism in Ireland; or the joy of finding a domestic haven with the love of her life, Nuala O'Faolain - and the pain of losing it, McCafferty doesn't spare anyone, least of all herself, in telling the truth of her life. The result is Nell: a journey that is moving, funny, inspiring and jaw-droppingly frank. 'By turns, exasperating, illuminating, striking, self-indulgent, wrong-headed, praiseworthy, incorrigible and unignorable' Times Literary Supplement 'A wistful, funny, moving, admirable, and complex autobiography by a woman who was present as modern Ireland was created' Irish Independent 'At times wonderfully incisive, witty and sharp, at others poignant and emotional' Evening Herald 'McCafferty has a rare gift for humanising political events and providing the kind of telling detail that scorches into the memory ... for the vignettes alone, the book is worth the purchase price' Sunday Business Post 'McCafferty brings her usual passion, wit, fury and scorching honesty to her autobiography, making it a compelling and fascinating read' Belfast Telegraph 'A gossipy good read' Sunday Tribune

Wind Pinball written by Haruki Murakami and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-04 with Fiction categories.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER Wind/Pinball, a unique two-in-one volume, includes, on one side, Murakami’s first novel Hear the Wind Sing. When you flip the book over, you can read his second novel, Pinball, 1973. Each book has its own stunning cover. In the spring of 1978, a young Haruki Murakami sat down at his kitchen table and began to write. The result: two remarkable short novels—Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973—that launched the career of one of the most acclaimed authors of our time. These powerful, at times surreal, works about two young men coming of age—the unnamed narrator and his friend the Rat—are stories of loneliness, obsession, and eroticism. They bear all the hallmarks of Murakami’s later books, and form the first two-thirds, with A Wild Sheep Chase, of the trilogy of the Rat. Widely available in English for the first time ever, newly translated, and featuring a new introduction by Murakami himself, Wind/Pinball gives us a fascinating insight into a great writer’s beginnings.

Sam Henry S Songs Of The People written by Gale Huntington and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-01 with Music categories.

The story of Ireland—its graces and shortcomings, triumphs and sorrows—is told by ballads, dirges, and humorous songs of its common people. Music is a direct and powerful expression of Irish folk culture and an aspect of Irish life beloved throughout the rest of the world. Incredibly, the largest single gathering of Irish folk songs had been almost inaccessible because, originally newspaper based, it was available in only three libraries, in Belfast, Dublin, and Washington D.C. Sam Henry's “Songs of the People” makes the music available to a wider audience than the collector ever imagined. Comprising nearly 690 selections, this thoroughly annotated and indexed collection is a treasure for anyone who performs, composes, studies, collects, or simply enjoys folk music. It is valuable as an outstanding record of Irish folk songs before World War II, demonstrating the historical ties between Irish and Southern folk culture and the tremendous Irish influence on American folk music. In addition to the songs themselves and their original commentary, Sam Henry's “Songs of the People” includes a glossary, bibliography, discography, index of titles and first lines, melodic index, index of the original sources of the songs and information about them, geographical index of sources, and three appendixes related to the original song series in the Northern Constitution.
