The letter of 1 Peter is sometimes also known as "the letter of the living hope." It is a letter written by a godly shepherd who wants to make sure his flock has good instructions on how to live a godly life. The author is Peter, one of Jesus' twelve disciples. Silas was Peter's scribe. Right at the start, the apostle describes the wonderful inheritance "that can never perish, spoil or fade." Then he gives practical advice on how to attain maturity in Christ. Topics range from holy living, obedience to authorities, family relations, and instructions for church elders. It further touches on such subjects as suffering injustice at the hand of men and suffering for Jesus' sake. Rev. Lenk explains all of the above in a phrase by phrase commentary. It is an excellent tool for spiritual growth. It can also be used as a devotional.

This book expresses concern for the spiritual growth and development of the people in God's house. It seeks to convey the vision behind God's plan helping church leaders evaluate their current work in feeding sheep. This book is for those who lack clarity in seeing the bigger picture and those whose attempts met with obstacles ending in frustration. This book creates an opportunity for church leaders to regroup and begin again having mastered the thinking behind God's plan. For the individual follower of Christ serious about his or her spiritual maturity, the book underscores the role of personal responsibility in the feeding process. It aids the reader in grasping the layers of spiritual development and understanding how each stage is critical to overall progress. All in all, this book is a timely addition to the book shelf with its frank biblically sound assessment and review. The use of imagery seeks to present a diverse subject in easily digested chunks so that even young readers can benefit. Use the book for group or self-study. Or throw it into the mix with your current training program.

I wanted to create a work that would make comprehensive easy to read and hard hitting for Christian Leaders that could bring us back to our first love. My second goal was to compile a work that would help Christian leaders become effective leaders by forming a philosophy for life and for ministry congruent to the will of God for their lives. I hope to accomplish these goals within the contents of this book. The book is insightful in many ways such as the importance of the Church as a critical part of secular society and mental health as a pathology that needs to be mitigated even among the constituents of the Church. Unfortunately erroneous practices, beliefs, behaviors and teachings had to be addressed because I believe many people will come to their senses about given subjects if they receive proper explanations. A logical and scriptural perspective is given in order to help some get on track with regards to their beliefs, philosophy and actions. Hot topics discussed are Ephesians 4:11 endowments of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. A special chapter is dedicated to the role of women in the Church which unfortunately is a topic that is still a concern for many Christians around the world. There are concepts that are presented that all work towards bringing an individual to full order and to full congruence with the will of God for Leaders. An awareness to the importance of feeding sheep is a central topic of this 269 page hand book for all Christian leaders that emphasizes the God given responsibility for Pastors and leaders that are non-negotiable. Every Christian leader must read this book before assuming ministry, during ministry and after ministry to review their performance awaiting the day when Jesus will hand out rewards for service especially crowns designated specifically for leaders who were faithful. There is so much more such as how to feed sheep and what diet is essential such as when feeding sheep we must feed a good balance of both the word and the anointing to achieve full spiritual health. We discuss the importance of the local Church and what research says about the congregation we speak to each time services are held. You may be surprised at the needs that are present each time you speak and the responsibility you have to be a vessel through whom God can do an actual intervention into the life of an attendee to prevent misfortune. You wont be disappointed. Every seminary, bible college, and Church must make this book a part of their curriculum, required reading and library.

There are a lot of books about leadership out there. I wanted to stir the pot and make some suggestions that I have not heard yet. Leadership is not about sticking qualities all over yourself, like dozens of yellow sticky notes: Today I will learn time management. Tomorrow I will develop integrity. Mere information is not enough to change us. Data may lead to transformation, but it is not enough to transform us on its own. Leadership is not about trends and buzzwords. Leadership is about personhood. Personhood is where this transformation truly takes place. Leadership may perseverate into any one of these things (stickies, trends, information, data, and buzzwords), but it is ultimately and ideally about personhood. This may be a philosophical category that the church has left off discussing, but it meant a lot to the ancients. We need to stir some of their depth back into our existence. One's genuine ability to lead comes from one's genuine transformation into the kind of person that is needed for the particular form of leading at hand. Different traits will be called forth from the leader depending on the situation, place, time, and people. It is the person who is the leader and not the trait or characteristic that is the leader. Being is critical; not just doing. I think a lot of our current reading on leadership is simply about skill-sets. They are important discussions, but that is not all there is. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying you must be perfect to lead. If that were the case, I would not be able to write this book. What I am saying is that your identity is where your true leading comes from, and if you are in a transformational relationship with Jesus the chances are good that your person and identity will deepen over time.

The twenty-first century gives a view through new lenses, revealing the church to have sheep scattering, some slowly dying with possibly uncalled shepherds. The faith-based organization is falling short of Gods Christlike representatives (servant leaders). The manual introduces leadership inventories to assess disciples for level of spiritual growth. There are leadership inventory standards, spiritual gift inventory, assessment of spiritual growth to assess FBO leaders to become servant leaders and not leaders. A youth spiritual gift inventory is available for youth leaders to consider assessing youth. The author did an exemplary job for leadership character traits that embody skills, which if applied properly will render a leader of excellence. The resource reflects the authors conclusion to her research that servant leaders in faith-based organization serving God should influence excellence. The publication is invaluable to transform aspiring and prospective servant leaders to image traits and practices of Christ. Dr. Fred Burrell, PhD, religious counsel, Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburgh, Indiana Dr. Young has compiled some noteworthy evidence and research on the ideal type of transformational leadership called Servant Leadership and applied it where it is needed the most: faith-based organizational leadership. I am proud to have mentored this fine scholar as she reached for her very meaningful dreams and turned them into a reality at the completion of her earned doctorate degree. Dr. Thomas H. Do You Love Me? is a very real and personal look at discipleship, revival, and how to position yourself for greater usefulness in God’s Kingdom. From accepting Christ during the 70’s Jesus Movement to leading a church into revival and feeding people in famine-stricken areas of Africa, author and Pastor Rick Tunis uses boldly transparent stories of his life to illustrate: Biblical teachings on the nature of shepherding. The ripple effects of backsliding. The joy of sustained commitment. God’s desire to take ordinary believers from the ranks of the unreliable and enlist them into unimaginable Spirit-led assignments. Are you like many Christians who are unable to maximize your potential to become an effective shepherd of others? If so, you may experience years of frustration, a sense of an unrealized calling, and limited usefulness in the Kingdom of God. Do You Love Me? will encourage you, and give you practical steps for making the change from sheep to shepherd through sustained faithfulness and obedience to God’s Word.
