Esse livro nos mostra uma face oculta, o outro lado da lua no cinema brasileiro, uma história que, por décadas, foi contada na mão única do recorte dominante, deixando de lado a questão de gênero e, particularmente, a dimensão da participação feminina. Não seria a mulher o grande "outro" do cinema brasileiro, já que a questão da alteridade diferencial lhe parece intrínseca e irreconciliável? Certamente não se trata da única cissura, mas sua invisibilidade é escandalosa. O percurso que extraímos do conjunto de ensaios aqui reunidos é significativo. Levanta de modo frontal não só a presença, mas também o movimento de negação sublimadora da força criativa da mulher no cinema. Mostra que a postura de ignorância não pode mais se sustentar. Reflete a dificuldade de aceitar as especificidades de gênero e o fato de que a própria obliteração do recorte excludente é uma discriminação. Então, quando os portões se abrem e o fundo da sala é clareado, insuspeitas criaturas vêm à tona em atitude de poder, com suas imagens, seus filmes, as diversas facetas diferenciadas, as sensações e percepções próprias. Ao colocarmos o dedo na ferida do gênero, ainda mais dilatada quando atravessada pela questão racial, não é necessário esquecer outros continentes da alteridade, como a questão de classe, que certamente a ele vem agregar-se. Antes dissimuladas, agora políticas de exclusão e preconceito tornam-se evidentes, orientando para um só lado a recepção, ainda que involuntária, da realidade que nos cerca. O principal mérito do livro é, nesse sentido, evidenciar o reiterado desvio de rota, a banalidade do mal que cerca o "ver ignorando", a negação ao acesso. É algo que nos permeia como natural, sem que percebamos. São reveladores, nos levantamentos arqueológicos em torno do que sobreviveu, não só o registro, mas a obra que insiste. Resultado da vontade e da pulsão que conseguiu ultrapassar barreira fixando expressão – diferenciada ou não, pouco importa; o que conta é a dimensão de intervenção que o conjunto dos textos propõe, para além de seu movimento de resgate e reavaliação. The E-Book Cinema/Cinéma Français/Cine Francés is VIC ́s proposal as an homage to Lyon, birth of cinéma and site of IAMCR Conference 2023. Appris Editor is the publisher and the publication counts with an International Scientific Committee and texts by researchers from eight countries, in the three official IAMCR idioms: English, French and Spanish, including Roger Odin ́s comments about the film Muriel (Resnais, 1963). The dates for the two sessions of the Workshop with the E-book authors are June 3 and 10 and the launch of it will be in Lyon, during IAMCR 2023 Conference online, from July 9 to 13. Trying to develop a multilevel dialog among the texts, I selected them according to their specific related themes and created three clusters: "filmmakers and their works"; "comparative film analyses"; and "interchanges between two countries". Four authors are included in the first cluster for sharing the same themes, two of them for discussing corporality and two for their focus on cinéma history and silent movies. Two authors share the second cluster for developing comparative analyses and three authors belong to the third cluster presenting interchanges between two countries.

Remapping Brazilian Film Culture makes a significant contribution not only to debates about Brazilian national cinema, but more generally about the development of world cinema in the twenty-first century. This book charts the key features of Brazilian film culture of the first two decades of the twenty-first century, including: the latest cultural debates within Brazil on film funding and distribution practices; the impact of diversity politics on the Brazilian film industry; the reception and circulation of Brazilian films on the international film festival circuit; and the impact on cultural production of the sharp change in political direction at national level experienced post-2016. The principle of "remapping" here is based on a need to move on from potentially limiting concepts such as "the national", which can serve to unduly ghettoise a cinema, film industry and audience.
