Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Film und Fernsehen, Note: 1, Hochschule Mittweida (FH) (Fachbereich Medien), Veranstaltung: Schreib- und Publikationstätigkeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zwölf Jahre nach der staatlichen Vereinigung und elf Jahre nach der Herstellung einer einheitlichen Rundfunkordnung bestehen in der gesamtdeutschen Fernsehrezeption immer noch Unterschiede zwischen den neuen und den alten Bundesländern. Mittlerweile sind nicht nur diese Unterschiede, sondern auch deren Fortbestehen erklärungsbedürftig. »Der Osten tickt anders ...« ist die vorläufige Selbsterkenntnis des Autors für ein Phänomen, über das bislang nur wenige Publikationen erschienen sind. Die Literaturdatenbank www.wiedervereinigung.de findet zum Stichpunkt »Mediennutzung« keinen einzigen Eintrag. Dennoch muss sich der Leser und natürlich auch der Autor nicht mit der eingangs erwähnten Selbsterkenntnis begnügen. Grundlage dieser Arbeit sind Studien der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der ARD-Werbegesellschaften, die in der Reihe »Media Perspektiven« seit 1970 monatlich erscheinen. Auch der Werbezeitenvermarkter von RTL, IP Media, hat das deutsch-deutsche Fernsehnutzungsverhalten in der Studie »Deutschland – Einig Fernsehland« unter die Lupe genommen. SUPERmedia, der Informationsdienst von SUPERIllu hat mit seiner Studie »Markenrealitäten 3« ebenso wertvolle Informationen geliefert wie die Publikation »Fernsehen in Ostdeutschland« der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der mitteldeutschen Landesmedienanstalten. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird mit Hilfe vieler Tabellen versucht, ein quantitatives Bild der unterschiedlichen Fernsehnutzung in Ost und West zu zeichnen. Im zweiten Teil werden dann Gründe und Erklärungsansätze geliefert.

Da die Mediennutzung stark an den Alltag gebunden war und die Einstellung zu den Medien eng mit der politischen Haltung zusammenhing, ist ein Bild entstanden, das Auskunft gibt über die ostdeutsche Gesellschaft in der zweiten Hälfte der 80er Jahre. Zugleich wird aus den Untersuchungen von Michael Meyen deutlich, warum es bis heute markante Unterschiede im Medienverhalten der Ostdeutschen und der Westdeutschen gibt und es beispielsweise überregionale westliche Blätter so schwer haben, im Osten Fuß zu fassen.
