The Proceedings focus primarily on alloys used in the iron and steel industry. Operating papers discuss the production of stainless steel from nickel ore by combining the Krupp-Renn with the BOF process, the production of ferro-nickel by a novel electric furnace process and chromium containing iron in the BOF, as well as furnace lining problems in ferro alloy smelting. A number of papers deal with various aspects of ferro-manganese production and ferro-molybdenum. The use of engineered carbide desulphurizer and the application of innovative cored wire in steel making is highlighted. Studies into the production of titanium silicide and the process leading to the recovery of vanadium from Suncor flyash is presented. Results of experimental work dealing with the preparation of nickel chromium alloys from Bird River chromite and nickel sulphide are discussed.

The manufacture and use of the powders of non-ferrous metals has been taking place for many years in what was previously Soviet Russia, and a huge amount of knowledge and experience has built up in that country over the last forty years or so. Although accounts of the topic have been published in the Russian language, no English language account has existed until now.Six prominent academics and industrialists from the Ukraine and Russia have produced this highly-detailed account which covers the classification, manufacturing methods, treatment and properties of the non-ferrous metals ( aluminium, titanium, magnesium, copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, lead, tin, bismuth, noble metals and earth metals). The result is a formidable reference source for those in all aspects of the metal powder industry. - Covers the manufacturing methods, properties and importance of the following metals: aluminium, titanium, magnesium, copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, noble metals, rare earth metals, lead, tin and bismuth - Expert Russian team of authors, all very experienced - English translation and update of book previously published in Russian

Ferrous materials have made a major contribution to the development of modern technology. They span a tremendous range of properties and applications. Part A of this book is dedicated to the fundamental relationships between the structure and the properties of ferrous materials. The considerably larger Part B deals with standardised materials, recent developments and industrial applications, which also affect processing aspects. Details are given for general engineering materials, tool and functional materials, as well as high-strength, creep-resistant and wear-resistant grades. This book closes the gap in the treatment of steel and cast iron. Each chapter takes into account the gradual transitions between the two types of ferrous materials. The authors demonstrate that steel and cast iron are versatile and customisable materials which will continue to play a key role in the future.

The heat treatment of ferrous (steel) Metal is based on the physical metallurgical principles which relate processing properties and structure. In heat treatment, the processing is most often entirely thermal and modifies only structure. The principles which govern heat treatment of metals and alloys are applicable, of course, to both ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. However, in practice there are sufficient differences to make it convenient to emphasize as separate topics the peculiarities of the alloys of each class in their response to heat treatment. The Present book covers production processes, heat treatment and other valuable details of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This is very helpful book for new entrants, technocrats, research scholars, libraries and existing units.

A Quantum Approach to Alloy Design: An Exploration of Material Design and Development Based Upon Alloy Design Theory and Atomization Energy Method presents a molecular orbital approach to alloy design that is based on electronic structure calculations using the DV-X alpha cluster method and new alloying parameters obtained from these calculations. Topics discussed include alloy properties, such as corrosion resistance, shape memory effect and super-elasticity that are treated by using alloying parameters in biomedical titanium alloys. This book covers various topics of not only metals and alloys, but also metal oxides, hydrides and even hydrocarbons. In addition, important alloy properties, such as strength, corrosion resistance, hydrogen storage and catalysis are treated in view of electron theory. - Presents alloy design theory and the atomization-energy method and its use for the fundamental understanding of materials and materials design and development - Discusses, for the first time, the atomization-energy analysis of the local lattice strains introduced around alloying elements in metals - Illustrates a simplified approach to predict the structure and phases stability of new alloys/materials
