Fish And Fisheries In The Brazilian Amazon written by Renato A.M. Silvano and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-21 with Science categories.

This book provides comparative data on fish ecology and small-scale fisheries between Tapajos (clear water) and Negro (black water) rivers, in the Brazilian Amazon. These rivers are less studied than white water rivers and few books on Amazon fishes have addressed more than one river basin. These data can serve as a baseline to check future changes or impacts in these rivers, which can be affected by development projects, such as highways, deforestation, mining and dams. Besides information on fish biology, the book also discusses fish uses, fisheries and its importance for riverine people, comparing these data for each fish species between sites located inside and outside conservation units. The book is an outcome of the research project ‘Linking sustainability of small-scale fisheries, fishers’ knowledge, conservation and co-management of biodiversity in large rivers of the Brazilian Amazon’, which was coordinated by the editor of this volume and funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NAS).

Biology And Ecology Of Fishes written by James S. Diana and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Biology and Ecology of Fishes Immerse yourself in the world of fish ecology with the newest edition of this essential introduction The study of fish ecology has traditionally proceeded along two tracks: the first is more basic, concerned with the anatomy, physiology and theoretical ecology of fish, and the second is more practical, concerning itself with fish populations, management, and habitats. Many fish researchers have come to view this distinction as artificial, and to develop a new study of fish that combines both tracks in a single holistic approach. It has never been more critical for introductory textbooks to represent this combined study in order to prepare the next generation of fish biologists and fishery scientists. Biology and Ecology of Fishes meets this need with a textbook that incorporates both biology and population management. Beginning with a general introduction to aquatic life and ecosystems, this book covers anatomical, environmental, and ethological topics to give a thoroughly rounded view of its subject, promising to serve as the fundamental introduction to multidisciplinary fish studies. Readers of the third edition of Biology and Ecology of Fishes will also find: Detailed coverage of subjects including growth and bioenergetics, feeding and predation, mortality and recruitment and more Increased attention to stressors of fish populations and communities New and revised chapters that introduce quantitative methods and present emerging issues facing fish populations and communities Biology and Ecology of Fishes is a useful overview for advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying fish ecology or fishery biology, as well as a reference for researchers and professionals in fish ecology, fish population management, and related fields.

These deltas, diverse in their geographical and economic conditions, are all confronted with natural hazards and pollution issues, posing threats to ecological health, human security and economic development. The book offers an overview of delta challenges in an integrated natural and social science approach. It is intended for researchers, graduate students and the public, especially those dwelling in deltas. It aims to improve knowledge of the current situation and to enhance awareness of the urgency of collective action to prepare for the uncertain future of these deltas. Possible future pathways towards delta sustainability are also addressed in the book.

Catfishes A Highly Diversified Group written by Gloria Arratia and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-13 with Science categories.

The order of Catfishes (Siluriformes) is one of the largest in number of families, genera, and species. The group is found in most freshwaters and shallow saltwater bodies around the world. Its extraordinary evolutionary and biogeographic pathways leave many open questions on its origin and large diversification that make its study a complex subject, yet a fascinating field for research. Catfishes, a Highly Diversified Group is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 (Their Outstanding Biology, 14 chapters) aims to rectify the incomplete information on the enormous morphological diversity of the group, special habits and adaptations to specific environments, and morpho-functional characteristics of the catfishes. Volume 2 (Evolution and Phylogeny, 18 chapters) deals with evolutionary mechanisms and major evolutionary trends within Siluriformes, investigating new avenues concerning fossil and extant catfishes and relationships within and among families, using morphological and molecular evidence.
