The Church is a mystery. Believers who want to enter more deeply into that mystery will reflect on the Church's basic characteristics, the "marks of the Church": what it means for the Church to be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Non-Catholics and nonbelievers looking to appreciate how Catholics regard the Church also will desire to understand these "marks". In this book, renowned Dominican theologian Fr. Aidan Nichols explores the Church's characteristics. Drawing on insights from four theological masters-Henri de Lubac, Jean Tillard, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Charles Journet-Nichols seeks to help Catholics and non-Catholics to "figure out" the Church, on at least a fundamental level. The four masters in question do not claim to exhaust the mystery of the Church, nor does Nichols. They do, however, assist the reader in going deeper into the mystery. To accomplish this goal, Nichols appeals to both the Scholastic tradition and authors influenced by the ressourcement movement in theology. In this way, he provides readers with a sense of Catholicism's breadth, which is at once orthodox and yet generously conceived.

In this brief guide, an internationally acclaimed theologian and Dominican priest explains the approach to Catholic theology that he has worked out during his nearly forty years of publishing books and articles in the service of the Church. He looks at the nature of theology, its status as a science that is also a wisdom, its intrinsic principles and methods, its sources, and its subdivisions. He discusses the qualities the budding theologian must make his own if theology is to be authentically Catholic and assist, rather than hinder, the Church's mission. In a time of considerable confusion in the intellectual life of the Church, arising not only from professors but from hierarchs, The Theologian's Enterprise offers comprehensive yet concise counsel to those setting out in the study of their faith, perhaps for the first time.

For many years now, the church in North America has heard figure after figure concerning the steady flow of young people leaving the church. In the midst of these troubling figures, there remains a glimmer of hope for these youth as they transition into young adults. Ever Ancient, Ever New tells the story of a generation of younger Christians from different backgrounds and traditions who are finding a home and a deep connection in the church by embracing a liturgical expression of the faith. Author and teacher Winfield Bevins introduces you to a growing movement among younger Christians who are returning to historic, creedal, and liturgical reflections of Christianity. He unpacks why and how liturgy has beckoned them deeper into their experience of Jesus, and what types of churches and communities foster this "convergence" of old and new. Filled with stories illustrating the excitement and joy many young adults have found in these ancient expressions of Christianity, this book introduces you to practices and principles that may help the church as it seeks to engage our postmodern world.

Every Christian needs to be involved in a local church. Perhaps you have struggled to find the right local church for yourself and your family after you have moved to a different area. You were discouraged by a bad experience with a church in the past, or you just simply dropped out of church. Now you have made the decision that you want to find a church to attend. Possibly, you have become concerned that the church you attend falls short or doesn’t meet your needs or the needs of your family, or even that the church you attend has drifted from a proper foundation. A new pastor has come who is taking the church in a direction you do not want to go. Often what passes for “church” in twenty-first century America isn’t what the New Testament presents to us. In most American communities, there are several churches. How does one find the “right” congregation? What makes for a healthy church? The author attempts to help you answer these questions.
