The first part discusses the alignment between the Shari'ah economic objectives and the SDGs, the Islamic social finance concept, its instruments and institutions and the intersection between Islamic finance and Islamic social finance. The second part presents a product structure that is based on cash waqf and is targeting the SDGs specifically. Some of these product structures involve zakat collection. The third part of the book presents the methodology to gather all these product structures in a national cash waqf ecosystem that is targeting SDGs. The aim of this ecosystem is to increase the impact of the various initiatives and instruments. In addition to this, the third part of the book presents the concept of Waqf offshore centers and the methodology to conceive and implement them. The aim of these Waqf offshore centers is to connect national cash waqf ecosystems and individuals with investment opportunities bringing more impact. The objective of organizing economic activities in any nation is the production of products and services to satisfy human wants. In the modern era, however, where division of labor and specialization are on the rise, those who produce products and services are not typically the same as those who consume or use them. Consequently, it is necessary to substitute one commodity for another. Barter required a 'double coincidence of desires'; B needed to possess both what A desired and what A could offer in exchange. This arrangement restricted the types of transactions that could be conducted, occupied additional time that could have been spent on production, and impeded the specialization of production. The limitations that the barter system placed on human ambitions lead to the evolution of money.

Islamic Social Finance provides an introduction to the Waqf system, which has played a significant socio-economic role throughout the history of Islamic civilization. In a contemporary framework, Waqf creates new networks between micro-entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), and entrepreneurship through voluntary donations made by individuals in a society. In other contexts, Waqf supports the financial system and contributes to the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Islamic finance has grown exponentially since 1963 and has reached more than 70 countries around the world with the asset size of about $2.5 trillion. The Islamic financial system today comprises a sizable asset base and there is evidence of sustained demand for Islamic financial products and services in the global market, with demand outstripping supply. This book provides a new source of understanding of the Islamic financial products in view of facilitating academia, industrialists, professionals, product designers, students and policymakers globally. There is a mass of literature on Islamic finance available to the market, but very little research is found in the form of book exclusively on Islamic financial products and their structures. Thus, this book is a timely contribution to the global market with Islamic financial product solutions.

Social financial reporting as an economic tool presents the firm as a socio-economic unit with empowered social capital to enable a sustainable economic solution, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Islamic social finance (ISF) is a corporate social responsibility initiative in the form of humanitarian and socio-development programs by Islamic financial institutions and Shariah-compliant corporations. ISF is applied through various methods and tools that structure based on Islamic Sharia Law. For example, Islamic social finance tools would either be philanthropic, involving activities such as zakat (obligatory alms-giving), Sadaqah (voluntary alms-giving/charity), and waqf (endowment) or ta’awun (cooperation-based activities), which include Qardh al-hasan (benevolent loan) and kafala (guarantee). Thus, Islamic social finance instruments play a vital role in alleviating poverty and addressing socio-economic issues such as illiteracy, unemployment, malnutrition, and health issues. As such, integrated ISF reporting can empower sustainable economic development and lead to recovery. The Handbook of Research on Islamic Social Finance and Economic Recovery After a Global Health Crisis provides insights on the role of Islamic social finance in supporting and facilitating economic recovery in the post-COVID-19 era as well as reducing poverty and addressing the challenges of socio-economic problems such as education, unemployment, malnutrition, and health issues. This book is ideally intended for practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students who are interested in improving their understanding on the role of Islamic social finance theoretically and empirically in solving the issue of poverty and developing excellent funds management to achieve economic empowerment with better environmental sustainability.
