This volume is the proceedings of a conference on Finite Geometries, Groups, and Computation that took place on September 4-9, 2004, at Pingree Park, Colorado (a campus of Colorado State University). Not accidentally, the conference coincided with the 60th birthday of William Kantor, and the topics relate to his major research areas. Participants were encouraged to explore the deeper interplay between these fields. The survey papers by Kantor, O'Brien, and Penttila should serve to introduce both students and the broader mathematical community to these important topics and some of their connections while the volume as a whole gives an overview of current developments in these fields.

This volume contains the proceedings of the ICTS Program: Groups, Geometry and Dynamics, held December 3-16, 2012, at CEMS, Almora, India. The activity was an academic tribute to Ravi S. Kulkarni on his turning seventy. Articles included in this volume, both introductory and advanced surveys, represent the broad area of geometry that encompasses a large portion of group theory (finite or otherwise) and dynamics in its proximity. These areas have been influenced by Kulkarni's ideas and are closely related to his work and contribution.

This volume contains the proceedings of three AMS Special Sessions on Computational Algebraic and Analytic Geometry for Low-Dimensional Varieties held January 8, 2007, in New Orleans, LA; January 6, 2009, in Washington, DC; and January 6, 2011, in New Orleans, LA. Algebraic, analytic, and geometric methods are used to study algebraic curves and Riemann surfaces from a variety of points of view. The object of the study is the same. The methods are different. The fact that a multitude of methods, stemming from very different mathematical cultures, can be used to study the same objects makes this area both fascinating and challenging.

From Pythagoreans to Hegel, and beyond, this book gives a brief overview of the history of the notion of graphs and introduces the main concepts of graph theory in order to apply them to philosophy. In addition, this book presents how philosophers can use various mathematical notions of order. Throughout the book, philosophical operations and concepts are defined through examining questions relating the two kinds of known infinities – discrete and continuous – and how Woodin's approach can influence elements of philosophy. We also examine how mathematics can help a philosopher to discover the elements of stability which will help to build an image of the world, even if various approaches (for example, negative theology) generally cannot be valid. Finally, we briefly consider the possibilities of weakening formal thought represented by fuzziness and neutrosophic graphs. In a nutshell, this book expresses the importance of graphs when representing ideas and communicating them clearly with others.

This volume presents the proceedings from the research conference, Symbolic Computation: Solving Equations in Algebra, Analysis, and Engineering, held at Mount Holyoke College, USA. It provides an overview of contemporary research in symbolic computation as it applies to the solution of polynomial systems. The conference brought together pure and applied mathematicians, computer scientists, and engineers, who use symbolic computation to solve systems of equations or who develop the theoretical background and tools needed for this purpose. Within this general framework, the conference focused on several themes: systems of polynomials, systems of differential equations, noncommutative systems, and applications.

As part of its series of Emphasis Years in Mathematics, Northwestern University hosted an International Conference on Algebraic Topology. The purpose of the conference was to develop new connections between homotopy theory and other areas of mathematics. This proceedings volume grew out of that event. Topics discussed include algebraic geometry, cohomology of groups, algebraic $K$-theory, and $\mathbb{A 1$ homotopy theory. Among the contributors to the volume were Alejandro Adem,Ralph L. Cohen, Jean-Louis Loday, and many others. The book is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in homotopy theory and its relationship to other areas of mathematics.

Finite Structures With Few Types written by Gregory L. Cherlin and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Mathematics categories.

This book applies model theoretic methods to the study of certain finite permutation groups, the automorphism groups of structures for a fixed finite language with a bounded number of orbits on 4-tuples. Primitive permutation groups of this type have been classified by Kantor, Liebeck, and Macpherson, using the classification of the finite simple groups. Building on this work, Gregory Cherlin and Ehud Hrushovski here treat the general case by developing analogs of the model theoretic methods of geometric stability theory. The work lies at the juncture of permutation group theory, model theory, classical geometries, and combinatorics. The principal results are finite theorems, an associated analysis of computational issues, and an "intrinsic" characterization of the permutation groups (or finite structures) under consideration. The main finiteness theorem shows that the structures under consideration fall naturally into finitely many families, with each family parametrized by finitely many numerical invariants (dimensions of associated coordinating geometries). The authors provide a case study in the extension of methods of stable model theory to a nonstable context, related to work on Shelah's "simple theories." They also generalize Lachlan's results on stable homogeneous structures for finite relational languages, solving problems of effectivity left open by that case. Their methods involve the analysis of groups interpretable in these structures, an analog of Zilber's envelopes, and the combinatorics of the underlying geometries. Taking geometric stability theory into new territory, this book is for mathematicians interested in model theory and group theory.
