Excerpt from Fire Retardant Ground Distribution Patterns From the CL-215 Air Tanker The drop pattern required by the fire conditions, and the characteristics of the delivery platform or aircraft, dictate the effective and minimum safe drop heights. The performance above this minimum safe drop height is related to the efficiency of the tank and gating system. Whether or not a particular system can deliver an effective drop pattern depends on the volume of retardant solution, the properties of the retard ant, and its flow rate upon release from the aircraft. Flow rates are related to the tank geometry and venting system, the size and shape of the gates, gate Opening speed and degree of obstruction, and the aircraft speed and flight envelope effect. Therefore, to improve the drop efficiency and safety, while updating the present air tanker fleet, emphasis must be placed on tank and gating system design, the proper ties of the fire retardant, and the relation between these two. The probable perform ance of proposed tank and gating systems must be known in order to assure selection of the best aerial attack systems and to optimize their performance. Therefore, the study reported here assessed the performance of the tank and gating system of the CL - 215. (it does not necessarily reflect on the performance of the CL-215 as an aerial platform, however.) Similarly, the properties of various retardants and their performance must be known. Thus, the study evaluated several retardants that are currently used. A series of test drops was carried out with the following specific objectives' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from An Evaluation of the Drop Characteristics and Ground Distribution Patterns of Forest Fire Retardants A review of the objectives of the study and the variables affecting the ground distribution pattern indicates that the study goals could best be met by using currently formulated fire retardants and a presently used aircraft having a load capacity that is no less than the minimum increment usually dropped. Aerospace Power In The Twenty First Century A Basic Primer written by Clayton K. S. Chun and has been published by DIANE Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Air power categories.

Dr. Chun's Aerospace Power in the Twenty-First Century: A Basic Primer is a great start towards understanding the importance of aerospace power and its ability to conduct modern warfare. Aerospace power is continually changing because of new technology, threats, and air and space theories. However, many basic principles about aerospace power have stood the test of time and warfare. This book provides the reader with many of these time-tested ideas for consideration and reflection. Although Aerospace Power in the Twenty-First Century was written for future officers, individuals desiring a broad overview of aerospace power are invited to read, share, and discuss many of the ideas and thoughts presented here. Officers from other services will find that this introduction to air and space forces will give them a good grasp of aerospace power. More experienced aerospace leaders can use this book to revisit many of the issues that have affected air and space forces in the past and that might affect them in the future. Air Force officers will discover that Aerospace Power in the Twenty-First Century is a very timely and reflective resource for their professional libraries.

Unlimited Horizons written by Peter W. Merlin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with U-2 (Reconnaissance aircraft) categories.

Designed as a stopgap measure to provide overhead reconnaissance capability during the early years of the Cold War, the versatile U-2 has since evolved to meet changing requirements well into the 21st century. Though many authors have documented the airplane's operational history, few have made more than a cursory examination of its technical aspects or its role as a NASA research platform. This volume includes an overview of the origin and development of the Lockheed U-2 family of aircraft with early National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) involvement, construction and materials challenges faced by designers and builders, releasable performance characteristics and capabilities, use of U-2 and ER-2 airplanes as research platforms, and technical and programmatic lessons learned.
