Excerpt from First Annual Dinner, 1913 York was effected September 25th and completed by a meeting of the Council November 6, 1913. Its pur pose is to cultivate social intercourse among its members and to collect historical material relating to the State of Pennsylvania. Its develop ment will proceed, therefore, on these two broad general lines. An essential feature is the Annual Dinner to be given on the date of the Annual Dinner of The Pennsylvania Society, but as a separate function, following which the members of the Society will occupy the boxes of the Dinner Hall of The Pennsylvania So clety for the addresses of the evening. In a sense an outgrowth of The Pennsylvania Society, the Society of Pennsylvania Women in New 'york 13 a wholly independent organization, organized with the friendliest feelings towards the older organization, and in large part from the women of its membership. Excerpt from Twenty-First Annual Report of the Public Library Committee, 1913 I have pleasure in submitting my twenty-first Annual Report. It covers the work of the Library during the year ended on the 3lst December, 1913. The year has been an eventful one, inasmuch as it has marked the coming of age of the Library; and the issues and the condition of the Library have been in keeping with such an event. The issues from the Library have exceeded those of any former year, and the Library generally is in a very thriving condition. It will be interesting to con sider the growth of the Library to the present time. The Library Acts were adopted in Hove on the lst of April, 1891. A meeting of the Ratepayers was held at the Ventnor Lecture Hall in November, 1890, to promote the objects of a Public Library; and a Committee was appointed to further the matter. In March, 1891, a Public Meeting was held in the Town Hall, and a resolution in favour of establishing a Library was passed unanimously. In the same month a Requisition was signed by eleven ratepayers and presented to the Hove Com missioners, who resolved that a, poll of the Town be taken. The poll resulted in a majority of more than 2 to 1 in favour of establishing the Library, persons voting in favour, and 502 voting against it. I am pleased to report that after the Free Library Board granted the Society the use of the room, a number of needed improvements were undertaken, viz., the laying of a new cement oor, painting and tinting the walls and ceiling and installing large cases for newspaper files. Your President and Secretary have been active in promoting the best interests of the Society. We are striving to extend our operations as rapidly as possible with the View of covering points of historical interest in this County.
