We studied several [Xi]c+ decay modes, most of them with a hyperon in the final state, and determined their branching ratios. The data used in this analysis come from the fixed target experiment SELEX, a multi-stage spectrometer with high acceptance for forward interactions, that took data during 1996 and 1997 at Fermilab with 600 GeV=c (mainly [Sigma]-, [pi]- ) and 540 GeV/c (mainly p) beams incident on copper and carbon targets. The thesis mainly details the first observation of two Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes, [Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]+[pi]-[pi]+ and [Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]-[pi]+[pi]+. The branching ratios of the decays relative to the Cabibbo-favored [Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]-[pi]+[pi]+ are measured to be: [Gamma]([Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]-[pi]+[pi]+)/[Gamma]([Xi]c+ 2![Xi]-[pi]+[pi]+) = 0.184 ± 0.086. Systematic studies have been performed in order to check the stability of the measurements varying all cuts used in the selection of events over a wide interval and we do not observe evidence of any trend, so the systematic error is negligible in the final results because the quadrature sum of the total error is not affected. The branching ratios for the same decay modes of the [Lambda]c+ are measured to check the methodology of the analysis. The branching ratio of the decay mode [Lambda]c+ 2![Sigma]+[pi]-[pi]+ is measured relative to [Lambda]c+ 2!pK- [pi]+, while the one of the decay mode [Lambda]c+ 2![Sigma]-[pi]+[pi]+is relative to [Lambda]c+2![Sigma]+[pi]-[pi]+, as they have been reported earlier. The results for the control modes are: [Gamma]([Lambda]c+2![Sigma]+[pi]-[pi]+)/[Gamma]([Lambda]c+ 2!pK- [pi]+) = 0.716 ± 0.144 and [Gamma]([Lambda]c+2![Sigma]-[pi]+[pi]+)/[Gamma]([Lambda]c+ 2![Sigma]+[pi]-[pi]+) = 0.382 ± 0.104. The branching ratio of the decay mode [Xi]c+ 2!pK- [pi]+ relative to [Xi]c+ 2![Xi]-[pi]+[pi]+ is considered as another control mode, the measured value is [Gamma]([Xi]c+ 2!pK-[pi]+)/[Gamma]([Xi]c+ 2![Xi]-[pi]+[pi]+) = 0.194 ± 0.054. Systematic studies have been also performed for the control modes and all systematic variations are also small compared to the statistical error. We also report the first observation of two more decay modes, the Cabibbo-suppressed decay [Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]- K+[pi]+ and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay [Xi]c+ 2![Sigma]+K+[pi]-, but their branching ratios have not been measured up to now.

We present results on rare charm and B decays using 65pb[sup -1] of data taken with the CDF detector in Run II. Three results are discussed, a measurement of the relative branching ratios[Lambda](D[sup 0][yields] K[sup+]K[sup -])/[Lambda](D[sup 0][yields] K[pi]) and[Lambda](D[sup 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])/[Lambda](D[sup 0][yields] K[pi]) and the direct CP-violating decay rate asymmetry, and a limit on the branching ratio of the FCNC decay D[sup 0][yields][mu][sup+][mu][sup -]. We also discuss the prospects for the search for B[sub s][sup 0][yields][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] decays.

The results of several studies of charmed mesons and baryons at BABAR are presented. First, searches for the rare decays D{sup 0} {yields} l{sup +}l{sup -} are presented and new upper limits on these processes are established. Second, a measurement of the branching fraction of the isospin-violating hadronic decay D*{sub s}(2112){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} relative to the radiative decay D*{sub s}(2112){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{gamma} is made. Third, the decays of D*{sub sJ}(2317){sup +} and D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} mesons are studied and ratios of branching fractions are measured. Fourth, Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} are examined and their branching fractions measured relative to Cabibbo-allowed modes. Fifth, the {Chi}{sub c}{sup 0} is studied through its decays to {Chi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} and {Omega}{sup -}K{sup +}; in addition to measuring the ratio of branching fractions for {Chi}{sub c}{sup 0} produced from the c{bar c} continuum, the uncorrected momentum spectrum is measured, providing clear confirmation of {Chi}{sub c}{sup 0} production in B decays.

Many experiments have observed charmed particles inclusively in ee− annihilation, hadro-, photo-, and neutrino- production, and recently in the direct cascade process from B meson decay. The scale of these measurements is set largely by the branching ratios B(D° .-->. K−.pi.) and B(D+ .-->. K−.pi.+.pi.+). These branching fractions have been measured by attributing the enhancement in the total hadronic cross section at the psi(3770) resonance to D anti D production, and normalizing the rates for K−.pi.+ and K−.pi.+.pi.+ accordingly. These height measurements however exhibit a wide variance. Two years ago a new technique for measuring branching fractions was introduced by the Mark III, which largely avoided the cross section normalization. The result, however, yielded significantly larger values for all branching ratios while leaving their relative values unchanged. In turn, it created a problem for subsequent high statistics inclusive measurements of charm (in particular the continuum e+e− production rate and B cascade decay rates) where an approx. 50% ''deficit'' of charm was claimed to exist by CLEO. With the rescaling downward by 24% (21%) of the Mark III D° (D+) values, the so-called ''charm deficit'' is again addressed in this review. Also introduced here are new measurements from ARGUS and HRS which also directly address the issue of charm normalization with statistics comparable to other measurements. Finally, an attempt is made to understand the whole body of psi(3770) resonance data. 13 refs.

The CDF II detector has the capability of triggering on displaced tracks. Because of this ability, CDF II has accrued large samples of charged meson decays to fully hadronic final states in 64 pb[sup -1] of p[bar p] collision data gathered at[radical]s= 1.96 TeV. Using initial Run II data samples, the production cross sections for J/[psi], D[sup 0], D[sup+], D*[sup+] and D[sub s][sup+] mesons have been measured. Ratios of branching ratios for Cabibbo suppressed final states and CP asymmetries in D[sup 0] meson decays have been studied. A measurement of the mass difference m(D[sub s][sup+]) -m(D[sup+]) has been done, and a limit for the branching fraction of the FCNC D[sup 0][yields][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] decays has been set.

The authors present new CDF results on the branching fractions and time-integrated direct CP asymmetries for B{sup 0} and B{sub s}{sup 0} decay modes into pairs of charmless charged hadrons (pion or kaon). The data set for this update amounts to 1 fb{sup -1} of {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. They report the first observation of the B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -}{pi}{sup +} mode and a measurement of its branching fraction and direct CP asymmetry. They also observe for the first time two charmless decays of b-baryon: {Lambda}{sub b}{sup 0} {yields} p{pi}{sup -} and {Lambda}{sub b}{sup 0} {yields} pK{sup -}.

The authors report CDF results on the B{sub c}{sup -} meson in Run II. The B{sub c}{sup -} meson has been observed in semileptonic decays, B{sub c}{sup -} {yields} J/{psi} {ell}{sup -} {nu}X, where {ell} = e, {mu} at a significance greater than 5{sigma} in both channels. The B{sub c}{sup -} {yields} J/{psi} {ell}{sup -}{nu}X observations have resulted in measurements of the relative production times branching ratio with respect to B{sup -} J/{psi} K{sup -} decays and a precise determination of the lifetime of the B{sub c}{sup -}: {tau}(B{sub c}{sup -}) = 0.474{sub -0.066}{sup +0.073}(stat.) {+-} 0.033(syst.) ps. Also, an observation of B{sub c}{sup -} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup -} decays at a significance exceeding 6{sigma} results in a precise determination of the mass of the B{sub c}{sup -}: M(B{sub c}{sup -}) = 6275.2 {+-} 4.3(stat.) {+-} 2.3(syst.) MeV/c{sup 2}.
