First Prince tells the tale of Wren, the beautiful yet rebellious first prince of Fontain, as he is forced to move to the Imperial Palace as part of a treaty with the Empire in order to maintain independence for his home kingdom of Fontain. Upon arriving in the Imperial Palace, however, he receives a less than warm welcome and realizes that his stay will be fraught with drama and danger. As Wren adapts to life in the Imperial court and struggles to understand his shifting role in Imperial politics, Fontain is always on his mind and he will do anything to protect its independence, even if it means sacrificing his own comfort. But when he finds romance at the palace in an unexpected place, he realizes that life in the Empire may not be as dire as he first imagined and that pleasure can be found where it is least expected. As his romance expands into his first true love, politics bring his relationship into question and he is forced to choose between love and loyalty or face the ultimate price.

This is the first book written about one of Wale's greatest leaders, Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, who can arguably be described as "the first prince of Wales." Bleddyn was at the heart of the tumultuous events that forged Britain in the cauldron of Norman aggression, and this study of his reign offers an important new perspective on the events of 1066 and beyond. he was a leader who used alliances on the wider British scale as he strove to recreate the fledgling kingdom of Wales that had been built and ruled by his brother, though outside pressures and internal intrigues meant his successors would compete ultimately for a principality.

So what is this about, you must be wondering? What kind of book have you stumbled across, and what genre should it be pigeonholed into? Fantasy is probably what most people would say. Fantasy that has been heavily influenced by Mythology. Of course, that is how fantasy started, before the fantasy genre was based on the fantasy genre. So we have stories about a world called Kel, and an author is telling you it is a mythology infused fantasy world- where does that take us? The long standing joke is that if The Princess Bride and Conan the Barbarian hooked up in Narnia and had a baby- that would be Kel. Kel is a fiction series inspired by a variety of mythologies, literature, and to a lesser extent films and popular culture. In this collection of short stories, readers will meet a handful of key characters that are featured in the first novel, 'A Prince of the North.' This collection also serves to give the reader an idea of the different tones they will find from one story to another. 'The First Prince' and 'Killing them Softly' are pretty much straight up adventure stories. If you crave some swashbuckling adventure mixed with some magic and some weirdness, those stories should satisfy. 'A Little Cash, A Pair of Dice, and a Bottle or Two of Ambrosia' introduces The Goblin Market, a strange place where characters from any number of worlds might cross over into Kel. In this case, a few characters meet for the first time and see what kind of deal they can strike. 'Assassin!' is intended as a 'creepy story for kids'. I want to describe it as a horror story, but I think that can give the wrong idea. It is a bit creepy, it is definitely dark. I would suggest reading it before you try reading it to a child, or letting a child read it themselves. If you have a child that is afraid of the dark, it is probably not the story for them. If you have a child who, like I was, wanted to know what was in the dark, they might enjoy it. Finally, 'The Steward of House Alléchant' is a little more on the intrigue side, introducing a few characters that feature prominently in the first novel, and in some following stories.

Hamengku Buwono IX, the late Sultan of Yogyakarta Special Province, is revered by Indonesians as one of the great founders of the modern Indonesian state. He leaves a positive but in some ways ambiguous legacy in political terms. His most conspicuous achievement was the survival of hereditary Yogyakartan kingship, and he provided rare stability and continuity in Indonesia’s highly fractured modern history. Under the New Order, Hamengku Buwono also helped to launch the Indonesian economy on a much stronger growth path. Although remembered as the epitome of “political decency”, he faded from power and influence as Vice President in the 1970s, and the repressive and anti-democratic features of Suharto’s New Order seemed to contradict much of what Hamengku Buwono originally stood for. This biography seeks to explain his political standpoint, motivations, and achievements, and set his career in the context of his times.

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A Times, Sunday Times and Telegraph Book of the Year ______________________________________________ 'A triumph ... a masterclass in the bottling of its subject's seductive essence. His presence in this book is so strong that it's hard to believe he has really left the building' MOJO 'Handsomely presented, visually sumptuous' THE TIMES ______________________________________________ From Prince himself comes the brilliant coming-of-age-and-into-superstardom story of one of the greatest artists of all time-featuring never-before-seen photos, original scrapbooks and lyric sheets, and the exquisite memoir he began writing before his tragic death. Prince was a musical genius, one of the most talented, beloved, accomplished, popular, and acclaimed musicians in pop history. But he wasn't only a musician-he was also a startlingly original visionary with an imagination deep enough to whip up whole worlds, from the sexy, gritty funk paradise of his early records to the mythical landscape of Purple Rain to the psychedelia of Paisley Park. But his greatest creative act was turning Prince Rogers Nelson, born in Minnesota, into Prince, the greatest pop star of his era. The Beautiful Ones is the story of how Prince became Prince-a first-person account of a kid absorbing the world around him and then creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and fame that would come to define him. The book is told in four parts. The first is composed of the memoir he was writing before his tragic death, pages that brings us into Prince's childhood world through his own lyrical prose. The second part takes us into Prince's early years as a musician, before his first album released, through a scrapbook of Prince's writing and photos. The third section shows us Prince's evolution through candid images that take us up to the cusp of his greatest achievement, which we see in the book's fourth section: his original handwritten treatment for Purple Rain-the final stage in Prince's self-creation, as he retells the autobiography we've seen in the first three parts as a heroic journey. The book is framed by editor Dan Piepenbring's riveting and moving introduction about his short but profound collaboration with Prince in his final days-a time when Prince was thinking deeply about how to reveal more of himself and his ideas to the world, while retaining the mystery and mystique he'd so carefully cultivated-and annotations that provide context to each of the book's images. This work is not just a tribute to Prince, but an original and energizing literary work, full of Prince's ideas and vision, his voice and image, his undying gift to the world. ______________________________________________ 'Prince's voice comes through loud and clear; his personality, joie de vivre and single-mindedness jumping off the page throughout.' CLASSIC POP MAGAZINE 'The Beautiful Ones is for everyone. It's not a read, but an experience, an immersion inside the mind of a musical genius. You are steeped in Prince's images, his words, his essence... The book can be a starting point for a Prince fascination, or a continuation of long-standing admiration. Either way, it will deepen the connection of any reader with the musical icon." USA TODAY 'An affirmation of Prince's Blackness and humanity... Prince writes about his childhood with clarity and poetic flair, effortlessly combining humorous anecdotes with deep self-reflection and musical analysis... Prince is one of us - he just worked to manifest dreams that took him from the North Side of Minneapolis to the Super Bowl.' HUFFPOST 'A compelling curiosity that finds its author orbiting around a few touchingly intimate encounters with his sphinx-like subject ... with passages, lyric sheets and photographs from the Purple One himself' TELEGRAPH, Books of the Year 'Both a pleasure and a surprise ... Prince took the project very seriously, and it shows in the work he delivered. ... It shines an intimate and revealing light on the least-known period of his life' VARIETY 'The Beautiful Ones is a book in pieces, fragments of the ground-breaking autobiography Prince had planned. Pieced together after his death in 2016, it collects his handwritten childhood memoires, superb personal photographs and his chosen co-writer Dan Piepenbring's vivid account of their brief collaboration. Yet remarkably despite the central absence, it still catches something of Prince between the gaps - a trace of perfume, a glance to camera, a first kiss' SUNDAY TIMES, Book of the Year 'This is a beautiful book and a must-have for Prince completists' DAILY EXPRESS 'A ghostly memoir of a pop legend' THE i

This book is the first complete study of the translations of Machiavelli’s Prince made in Europe and the Mediterranean countries during the period from the sixteenth to the first half of the nineteenth century: the first, unpublished French translation by Jacques de Vintimille (1546), the first Latin translation by Silvestro Tegli (1560), as well as the first translations in Dutch (1615), German (1692), Swedish (1757) and Arabic (1824). The first translation produced in Spain - dated somewhere between the end of the sixteenth and the early seventeenth century - remained in manuscript form, while there was a second vernacular Spanish version around 1680. The situation in Great Britain was different from the rest of Europe, as it could boast four manuscript translations by the end of the sixteenth century.
