The first edition of this book has been very well received by the community. The new version 4 of Maple V contains so many new mathematical features and improvements in the user interface that Waterloo Maple Inc. markets it as "the Power Edition. " These two facts have made it necessary to write a second edition within a short period of the first. I corrected typographical errors, rephrased text, updated and improved many examples, and added much new material. Hardly any chapter has been left untouched. Substan tially changed or added sections and chapters address the assume facility, I/O, approximation theory, integration, composite data types, simplifica tion, graphics, differential equations, and matrix algebra. Tables summa rize features, command options, etc. , and constitute a quick reference. The enlarged index of the book has been carefully compiled to make locating search items quick and easy. Many new examples have been included show ing how to use Maple as a problem solver, how to assist the system during computations, and how to extend its built-in facilities. About the Maple Version Used The second edition of this book is fully revised and updated to Maple V Release 4. More precisely, the second edition of this book was produced with Maple V Release 4, beta 3 on a SUN SPARCstation 20, Model 71. There should be hardly any difference between this beta version and the final release; only minor differences in the user interface are not excluded.

Advanced Problem Solving Using MapleTM: Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, and Decision Analysis applies the mathematical modeling process by formulating, building, solving, analyzing, and criticizing mathematical models. Scenarios are developed within the scope of the problem-solving process. The text focuses on discrete dynamical systems, optimization techniques, single-variable unconstrained optimization and applied problems, and numerical search methods. Additional coverage includes multivariable unconstrained and constrained techniques. Linear algebra techniques to model and solve problems such as the Leontief model, and advanced regression techniques including nonlinear, logistics, and Poisson are covered. Game theory, the Nash equilibrium, and Nash arbitration are also included. Features: The text’s case studies and student projects involve students with real-world problem solving Focuses on numerical solution techniques in dynamical systems, optimization, and numerical analysis The numerical procedures discussed in the text are algorithmic and iterative Maple is utilized throughout the text as a tool for computation and analysis All algorithms are provided with step-by-step formats About the Authors: William P. Fox is an emeritus professor in the Department of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School. Currently, he is an adjunct professor, Department of Mathematics, the College of William and Mary. He received his PhD at Clemson University and has many publications and scholarly activities including twenty books and over one hundred and fifty journal articles. William C. Bauldry, Prof. Emeritus and Adjunct Research Prof. of Mathematics at Appalachian State University, received his PhD in Approximation Theory from Ohio State. He has published many papers on pedagogy and technology, often using Maple, and has been the PI of several NSF-funded projects incorporating technology and modeling into math courses. This is the only book that teaches all aspects of modern mathematical modeling and that is specifically designed to introduce undergraduate students to problem solving in the context of biology. Included is an integrated package of theoretical modeling and analysis tools, computational modeling techniques, and parameter estimation and model validation methods, with a focus on integrating analytical and computational tools in the modeling of biological processes. Divided into three parts, it covers basic analytical modeling techniques; introduces computational tools used in the modeling of biological problems; and includes various problems from epidemiology, ecology, and physiology. All chapters include realistic biological examples, including many exercises related to biological questions. In addition, 25 open-ended research projects are provided, suitable for students. An accompanying Web site contains solutions and a tutorial for the implementation of the computational modeling techniques. Calculations can be done in modern computing languages such as Maple, Mathematica, and MATLAB?.

In the present book, attempts have been made to conquer the difficulty of solving nonlinear differential equations, especially the highly nonlinear ones. A convenient approach (AGM = Akbari-Ganjis method) has been proposed to solve all the existing nonlinear ordinary differential equations up to now. Here, all the existing nonlinear ODEs have been divided into some categories, and for each of them, an innovative technique has been introduced to find their exact solution. Moreover, a suitable technique has been proposed to evaluate the precision of the acquired solution, which can be utilized when there is not any exact solution and the problem is not solvable by numerical methods, such as some kinds of inverse problems. One of the significant nobilities of this book refers to the ability of AGM in solving partial differential equations in different aspectsfor instance, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and vibration, as discussed in the sixth chapter. Eventually, we hope this book can be considered as a suitable guide for all the people who deal with nonlinear differential equations.

AISC 2002, the 6th international conference on Arti?cial Intelligence and S- bolic Computation, and Calculemus 2002, the 10th symposium on the Integ- tion of Symbolic Computation and Mechanized Reasoning, were held jointly in Marseille, France on July 1-5, 2002. This event was organized by the three universities in Marseille together with the LSIS (Laboratoire des Sciences de l'Information et des Syst` emes). AISC 2002 was the latest in a series of specialized conferences founded by John Campbell and Jacques Calmet with the initial title "Arti?cial Intelligence and Symbolic Mathematical Computation" (AISMC) and later denoted "Art- cial Intelligence and Symbolic Computation" (AISC). The scope is well de?ned by its successive titles. AISMC-1 (1992), AISMC-2 (1994), AISMC-3 (1996), AISC'98, and AISC 2000 took place in Karlsruhe, Cambridge, Steyr, Plattsburgh (NY), and Madrid respectively. The proceedings were published by Springer-Verlag as LNCS 737, LNCS 958, LNCS 1138, LNAI 1476, and LNAI 1930 respectively. Calculemus 2002 was the 10th symposium in a series which started with three meetings in 1996, two meetings in 1997, and then turned into a yearly event in 1998. Since then, it has become a tradition to hold the meeting jointly with an event in either symbolic computation or automated deduction. Both events share common interests in looking at Symbolic Computation, each from a di?erent point of view: Arti?cial Intelligence in the more general case of AISC and Automated Deduction in the more speci?c case of Calculemus.
