Zeit spielt eine übergeordnete Rolle im täglichen Leben des Menschen. Besonders wichtig ist die Zeitfrage im täglichen Erwerbsleben, denn einerseits bildet die Arbeitszeit den Rahmen, in dem die Arbeit stattfindet, andererseits bestimmt sie die Grenze zwischen Arbeit und Freizeit. Die Arbeitszeit und damit unweigerlich zusammenhängend die Familien- bzw. Freizeit sind ein fortwährend aktuelles Thema unserer Gesellschaft. Immer mehr Beschäftigungsverhältnisse sind befristet und die Dauer, Lage und Verteilung der Arbeitszeit wechselt immer öfter, zum Teil auf Wunsch der Beschäftigten, aber auch aus betrieblicher Notwendigkeit. Thema dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Untersuchung und Beurteilung flexibler Arbeitszeitformen. Dabei stütze ich mich überwiegend auf theoretische Ansätze aus der Literatur. Im Zentrum meiner Arbeit steht die Frage, ob eine Vereinbarkeit von Familie und Beruf durch flexible Arbeitszeitformen besser zu erreichen ist. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei, wie der Titel schon sagt, die Flexibilisierung der Arbeitszeit in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft. Eine Flexibilisierung kann sich u.a. durch eine veränderliche Arbeitszeit auszeichnen, die beweglich und anpassungsfähig ist.

This refreshing volume introduces a theory for explaining cross-national differences in the social practice of women (and men) in the areas of family and employment.
