Und er will es auf ganz besondere Weise feiern, wie Hans-Ulrich Lüdemann zu Beginn des dritten seiner Reise-Essay aus der Happy-Rolliday-Reihe erzählt: Mit Katastrophen und Irrtümern begann es überhaupt: Im Jahre 2002 jährte sich mein Unfall, der mich für den Rest des Lebens in den Rollstuhl gezwungen hat, zum fünfundzwanzigsten Male. Ich war so voller Ideen und Tatendrang – irgendwo weit weg von zu Hause im Rollstuhl an einem Sonnen überfluteten Strand sitzend wollte ich triumphieren, dass ich überhaupt reisen konnte und auch sonst noch einigermaßen beisammen war. Hatten die Ärzte im Lazarett mir doch wegen der Höhe meiner Querschnittlähmung nur zwei Jahre Überlebenszeit eingeräumt. Zum Glück teilte man mir diesen Fakt erst mit, als es mir bereits besser ging und beispielsweise keine Erstickungsattacken mehr zu befürchten waren. Möglich, dass ich im anderen Falle resigniert hätte ... Also, ich wünschte akkurat am 22. Januar 2002 in Florida mein Jubiläum zu begehen, indem ich als Atheist unseren lieben Herrgott einen guten Mann sein lassen wollte. Die Sonne des Südens sollte mich wärmen und, wenn auch nur für kurze Zeit, alle Malaisen der vergangenen Jahre in den Hintergrund drängen. Diesmal würde Kerstin, die Frau-Freundin seines jüngsten Sohnes, ihn und seine tapfere Frau auf dem Flug nach Übersee begleiten. Ziel war Fort Myers im US-Bundesstaat Florida. Lüdemann hatte erfahren, dass der Westen Floridas viel weniger Kriminalität aufweise als beispielsweise Miami. Was ihn ausnehmend beruhigte – an den schönen Golf-Stränden patrouillierten berittene Polizisten. Und wieder begannen die schwierigen Reisevorbereitungen für Reiseteilnehmer mit Behinderung, wozu auch die Suche nach einer passenden Unterkunft gehörte. Doch dann stoppten die Ereignisse des 11. September 2001 zunächst einmal alle Vorbereitungen für Überlebens-Jubiläum im Jahre 2002 – zumindest in den USA. Aber aufgeschoben war nicht aufgehoben. Der zweite Versuch startete im Herbst 2002. Auf der Wunschliste standen unter anderem ein Museum, das Ernest Hemingway gewidmet ist, ein Besuch beim weltbekannten Erfinder Thomas Alva Edison sowie ein Air-Boat-Ausflug über die Sümpfe in den Everglades und ein Flanieren auf dem OCEAN DRIVE in Miami vor dem Rückflug. Vielleicht fiele sogar eine Filmrolle ab? Sogar der Anblick der Rückkehr der Raumfähre „Atlantis“ auf dem Kennedy Space Center war den drei USA-Reisenden vergönnt.
