Software development today is embracing events and streaming data, which optimizes not only how technology interacts but also how businesses integrate with one another to meet customer needs. This phenomenon, called flow, consists of patterns and standards that determine which activity and related data is communicated between parties over the internet. This book explores critical implications of that evolution: What happens when events and data streams help you discover new activity sources to enhance existing businesses or drive new markets? What technologies and architectural patterns can position your company for opportunities enabled by flow? James Urquhart, global field CTO at VMware, guides enterprise architects, software developers, and product managers through the process. Learn the benefits of flow dynamics when businesses, governments, and other institutions integrate via events and data streams Understand the value chain for flow integration through Wardley mapping visualization and promise theory modeling Walk through basic concepts behind today's event-driven systems marketplace Learn how today's integration patterns will influence the real-time events flow in the future Explore why companies should architect and build software today to take advantage of flow in coming years

The evolution of software design is moving into a phase dominated by events and streaming data. Serverless programming, IOT data capture, and even live video provide a near real-time look at the world around us. Software is being developed now that can optimize the ways not only how technology interacts, but how businesses themselves integrate with other businesses to meet customer needs, a phenomenon I call "flow". Flow may best be defined as the defacto patterns and standards by which activity and related data is communicated between arbitrary parties over the Internet. This book explores a critical implication of that evolution: what happens when the sources, formats, and mechanisms that enable the exchange of events and data streams are commoditized and standard, and businesses can discover and link new sources of activity to enhance existing businesses or drive new markets altogether? And what are some of the technologies and architectural patterns that you can begin to adopt today to position your company for the tremendous opportunities enabled by flow? As HTTP revolutionized the way we linked information, will de facto event standards revolutionize the way we link activity?

A radical shift is taking place in the way that society is thinkingabout cities, a change from the machine metaphors of the 20thcentury to mathematical models of the processes of biological andnatural systems. From this new perspective, cities are regarded notsimply as spatially extended material artefacts, but as complexsystems that are analogous to living organisms, exhibiting many ofthe same characteristics. There is an emerging view that the designof the thousands of new cities needed for an expanding worldpopulation are to be founded on intelligent and inhabitedinfrastructural systems or ‘flow architectures’ ofurban metabolisms. The physical arrays of the flow architecture ofthe city are intimately connected to the networks of subsidiarysystems that collect and distribute energy, materials andinformation. They animate the city, and should therefore beintimately coupled to the spatial and cultural patterns of life inthe city, to the public spaces through which people flow, andshould unite rather than divide urban morphological and ecologicalsystems. Featured architects: AMID(cero9), Buro Happold, Foster +Partners, Groundlab and SOM. Contributors include: Joan Busquets, Kate Davies and Liam Young,Mehran Gharleghi, Evan Greenberg and George Jeronimidis, MarinaLathouri, Wolf Mangelsdorf, Daniel Segraves, Jack Self, RicardSolé and Sergi Valverde, and Iain Stewart.

Presenting a collection of exploratory ideas, this book offers an understanding of buildings, people and settlements through concepts of flow. The metaphorical term 'the space of flows' was coined by the sociologist Manuel Castells. This book addresses this topic and the interest in processes that flow across traditional boundaries from the person to the building, from the sense of self to the settlement, from economics to identity.

Technological Economy written by Don Slater and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-07-15 with Business & Economics categories.

In this major new collection, leading experts explore the multidisciplinary connections between technology and economy, drawing on new convergences between economic sociology and science and technology studies. Through theoretical and empirical studies, the authors investigate: * economics and economic knowledges as technologies * the economies as socio-technical arrangements * the nature of innovation * the role of technological mediations in representing and performing economies. This revealing book, ideal for those with an interest in contemporary social theory, interrogates the evidence for the contemporary claims about the emergence of the ‘new economy’ and ‘knowledge-based economies’ and sheds new light on the relationship between economy and culture.

This book provides a practical guide to flow-aware networking (FAN), one of the most promising new quality-of-service architectures for the Future Internet. The latest concepts are examined in detail, including coverage of approximate flow-aware networking. The scope and evolution of the debate on network neutrality is also discussed. Topics and features: provides a broad survey of flow-oriented approaches and solutions based on the concept of flows; presents a range of mechanisms for improving transmission performance of streaming flows under congestion; illustrates how problems caused by congestion may be solved in a multilayer environment, proposing new methods for enhancing transmission in wired-wireless FAN; analyzes aspects of fair transmission in FAN, reviewing algorithms that improve transmission of streaming flows during network failures; describes the implementation aspects of the cross-protect router; concludes each chapter with review questions, with answers provided at the end of the book.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing (ICA3PP 2008). ICA3PP 2008 consist of two keynote addresses, seven technical sessions, and one tutorial. Included in these proceedings are papers whose authors are from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, France, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, UAE, UK, and USA. Each paper was rigorously reviewed by at least three Program Committee members and/or external revi- ers, and the acceptance ratio is 35%. These papers were presented over seven technical sessions. Based on the paper review results, three papers were selected as the best papers. We would like to thank the many people who helped make this conference a successful event. We thank all authors who submitted their work to ICA3PP 2008, and all Program Committee members and additional reviewers for their diligent work in the paper review process ensuring a collection of high-quality papers. We are grateful to Hong Shen University of Adelaide, Australia and Kleanthis Psarris University of Texas at San Antonio, United States, for their willingness to be the keynote speakers. Our thanks go to Hai Jin and George Papapodoulos, the conference General Co-chairs, and Andrzej Goscinski, W- lei Zhou and Yi Pan, the conference Steering Committee Co-chairs for help in many aspects of organizing this conference. Finally, we thank all the conference participants for traveling to Cyprus.
