Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Guidebooks - Nature, language: English, abstract: A Chikodi hill is located in North Western part of Belagavi District of Karnataka state, India, maintaining great plant diversity. Little attention to plant diversity studies has been made to it in the past years. Here, we present a checklist of the flowering plants of this region obtained through intensive field investigations and matching of herbarium specimens. In total, 584 species, including 24 endemic species are documented, belonging to 95 families and 383 genera. The native ranges, habit, habitat, flowering and fruiting and voucher specimens of taxon have been recorded in this checklist. It is the first exhaustive inventory of the flowering plants in Chikodi hills which is a significant regional centre for plant diversity.

Originally published in 1980, this title began as a set of questions posed by faculty on the campus of Carnegie-Mellon University: What do we know about how people write? What do we need to know to help people write better? This resulted in an interdisciplinary symposium on "Cognitive Processes in Writing" and subsequently this book, which includes the papers from the symposium as well as further contributions from several of the attendees. It presents a good picture of what research had shown about how people write, of what people were trying to find out at the time and what needed to be done.

Asymmetry In Plants written by Bir Bahadur and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-25 with Nature categories.

Plants exhibit forms of asymmetry analogous to "handedness" in bilaterally symmetrical animals. This book explores the evolutionary significance and development of asymmetry. Examples of genetic control include the direction of tendril or stem coiling of many climbing plants; the so-called spiral phyllotaxy and floral taxy; and contorted petal arrangement is another kind of left- right symmetry in plants; the direction of contortion is fixed in some but not in other plants. The book will underscore tha all phenomena related to handedness start during embryogenesis itself, with the occurrence of embryo rotation. Key selling features: First consolidated book on Plant Handedness Relates handedness, asymmetry and chirality to the evolution of different organizational levels in plant biology Emphasizes handedness as a vital governing force in plant functional evolution Provides a new perspective, hitherto ignored, into plant developemtn and evolution Describes how an age-old phenomenon can give scope for investigation from a very modern interdisciplinary approach

Project Report from the year 2014 in the subject African Studies - Miscellaneous, grade: 2, Kuvempu University, language: English, abstract: Bijapur is the land of an ancient city. During the period of Chalukya’s of Kalyani it was known as Vijayapura (City of victory). The Bijapur district has an area of 10,541 km2. The district is found in association with barren rocky/stony wastes within notified forest boundaries with scrubs. The present botanical survey resulted in to 257 flowering plant species, (including cultivars) under 219 genera and 68 families. Among the total number of species, the leading families found in the campus are Poaceae, Fabaceae, Caesalpiniaceae. Among these, Salvia aegyptica L. is very rarely distributed and only confined to Bijapur district. Beside this, Indigofera hochstetteri Baker, was relocated in the campus. The floristic diversity information provides complete picture of different species available in various seasons and associated faunal diversity. Field observations indicated that the present study area is devoid of tall or big trees due to barren rocky/stony wastes land. Furthermore, based on present survey we are recommended that more number of tree/shrub species must be planted and it should be proper monitoring in future by concerned authorities.

Crossing To Talikota written by Girish Karnad and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-28 with Social Science categories.

The year is 1565. Devastation reigns over the once-renowned Vijayanagara Empire. Its powerful army has buckled under the assault of four minor Sultanates. Within a few hours of the Battle of Talikota, the political contours of southern India have been radically altered, the rich and prosperous capital city, Vijayanagara, plundered, decimated, and abandoned. It would lie uninhabited for centuries, known thereafter only as ‘the ruins of Hampi’. Behind this cataclysm swirls a saga of ruthless ambition, caste, and religious conflict, family intrigue and betrayal, driven by the power hungry ‘Aliya’ Ramaraya, son-in-law of the emperor Krishna Deva Raya. A brilliant strategist and diplomat, he ruled the empire with an iron hand but was unacceptable to his own people as the legitimate heir because he lacked royal blood. In Crossing to Talikota, Girish Karnad focuses on the interplay of characters who have been ignored by history even though they played integral roles in shaping one of its darkest chapters.

The One Straw Revolution written by Masanobu Fukuoka and has been published by New York Review of Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-08 with Nature categories.

Call it “Zen and the Art of Farming” or a “Little Green Book,” Masanobu Fukuoka’s manifesto about farming, eating, and the limits of human knowledge presents a radical challenge to the global systems we rely on for our food. At the same time, it is a spiritual memoir of a man whose innovative system of cultivating the earth reflects a deep faith in the wholeness and balance of the natural world. As Wendell Berry writes in his preface, the book “is valuable to us because it is at once practical and philosophical. It is an inspiring, necessary book about agriculture because it is not just about agriculture.” Trained as a scientist, Fukuoka rejected both modern agribusiness and centuries of agricultural practice, deciding instead that the best forms of cultivation mirror nature’s own laws. Over the next three decades he perfected his so-called “do-nothing” technique: commonsense, sustainable practices that all but eliminate the use of pesticides, fertilizer, tillage, and perhaps most significantly, wasteful effort. Whether you’re a guerrilla gardener or a kitchen gardener, dedicated to slow food or simply looking to live a healthier life, you will find something here—you may even be moved to start a revolution of your own.

Academic Paper from the year 2014 in the subject Biology - Botany, grade: 2, Kuvempu University, language: English, abstract: The present work aimed to study the tree species diversity in Gadag district, Karnataka. A total of 133 tree species belonging to 105 genera and 42 families were encountered. Fabaceae was represented by the highest number of species (34), followed by Bignoniaceae (10). Among total number of the species 16 plants recorded as alien and medicinal plants respectively, beside this edible fruit 22 (including minor 16 and major edible fruit 6), dye yielding 7, fodder 4, sacred plants 5, timber 21 also been documented. It is essential to document tree species diversity, in order to gain more knowledge on species richness as well as their geographical distribution.
