El nuevo modelo de universidad que nos presenta el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior tiene como uno de sus principales objetivos la inserción de la Universidad en la sociedad como motor de cambios, especialmente en el mundo científico y empresarial. Por esta razón este libro se ha desarrollado con tres objetivos fundamentales: Exponer de forma sencilla y clara cada uno de los problemas de Grafos, Redes y sus aplicaciones cuya utilización está más extendida; Ilustrar mediante un ejemplo como llevar a la práctica los modelos teóricos; Resolver ejercicios prácticos utilizando en cada problema el software adecuado y Proponer ejercicios para que el alumno compruebe su grado de aprendizaje. El contenido está estructurado en seis capítulos, los cuatro primeros están dedicados a la teoría de grafos, redes y sus aplicaciones más generales, como el problema de transporte, el árbol de expansión, el camino mínimo o la distribución de flujo en redes. El Capítulo 5 estudia las aplicaciones de los grafos en la gestión de proyectos que dan lugar a las técnicas conocidas como CPM o PERT. Por último, en el Capítulo 6 aparece un complemento de introducción a la simulación y sus aplicaciones.
