The Instrument Rating is a test of not only the student's ability to fly accurately on Instruments, the foundation, but also the ability to cope under a number of pressures. Instrument Flying is intended to help prepare the student to pass what is regarded as probably the most demanding flight tests in the world, the JAA Instrument Rating. It will also provide some useful tips and reminders when the IR renewal is due. Subjects covered include: Instrument Flight; Use of Radio Navigation Aids; Let Down and Approach Procedures for both ILS and NDB; Airways Flight; The Instrument Rating Test. Illustrated with between 20 - 30 exercise charts.

A new, easier and more precise method for attitude instrument flight. The author, a Master Instructor with over 10,000 flight hours, reveals the secrets he developed over decades of instructing instrument pilots--without a single failure on any instrument checkride! See how our psychology and physiology adversely affects how we fly on instruments, and how the traditional methods of instrument flying will never solve those problems! Here are new and completely unique methods of touching the yoke, scanning the instruments, and maneuvering the aircraft. You will fly more smoothly, more precisely and with less effort. If you are a student or private pilot, these techniques will save your life if you ever accidentally fly into a cloud. If you are an instrument student, your training will progress faster, and with better results. And, if you are an 'old pro,' you will find new tricks that make your flying easier. A must have for any fixed-wing pilot!

The years 1921-31 saw U.S. aviation marking its first quarter century with record after record demonstrating the speed and reliability of aircraft and the developed skill of pilots who flew them. By 1929, the technology was greatly advanced beyond the fragile craft and the sputtering engine of the Wright Brothers. The ultimate tribute to them was the fact their aircraft, its engine and its controls proved to be the foundation for aviation. In 1932-35, technology and pilot skill breached weather's wall with the ability to fly instruments. A breakthrough flight control system, first demonstrated in 1929, had to be deconstructed to put the pilot into the knowledge loop. The result was a trio of pilot flight instruments that serve aviation to this day.

Whether you fly for pleasure, business, or are seeking a career in aviation, the Instrument Rating is your ticket into the full spectrum of the airspace system and the key to maximizing the functionality of your pilot certificate. The Pilot's Manual: Instrument Flying provides everything you need to know to safely fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) -- all the aeronautical knowledge and skill, from basic attitude flying to navigation and meteorology, to the actual IFR maneuvers flown in the air. You will master the preflight preparations required for instrument flight before learning IFR departure, en route, terminal and approach procedures. Both conventional "steam gauge" and glass cockpit instruments are covered. Hundreds of full-color illustrations simplify even those procedures perceived to be complicated: holding patterns, intercepting and tracking, flying an approach with crosswinds. Thorough review sections at the end of each chapter hone your knowledge. Helpful notes in the margins provide quick definitions of terms, further emphasis on key points, or explanation of mnemonic devices. All of the tasks from the FAA's Practical Test and Airmen Certification Standards are covered in this textbook, giving instrument students a solid foundation for the instrument rating. Tips that could only be gleaned from experts make it an invaluable reference book for the instrument-rated pilot as well. Detailed prose and illustrations prepare you for your oral and flight tests with confidence. The success of "The Pilot's Manual" textbook series lies in its remarkable editorial team, which includes airline, military and professional pilots, flight instructors, university professors, FAA representatives, meteorologists, members of industry organizations, and designated examiners. The writing is clear, concise, and provides comprehensive information on the practical aspects of flying. Each book has more than 500 pages and at least as many original illustrations and charts. All air work is depicted graphically as well as textually for maximum comprehension. This is the textbook series chosen by universities and colleges.
