Aust'n. When I began writing my memoirs, it was never my intention to produce a piece of literary work. It has been written from the heart. Many people came in and out of my life over the past sixty years. As I transported myself into my childhood memories came flooding back and I recorded them before they slipped away from my grasp. It was not only an excellent exercise to revive my memory but I had time to reflect on the many ways the people who had journeyed with me helped my growth spiritually, emotionally, physically and intellectually. It was a lesson in humility as well. One is never self-made. The contribution of every person in one's life helps form the whole person one aspires to become. I am, what I am today, because so many of these people stopped a while, or longer to leave their footprints on my heart.

Footprints on the Heart By: Patricia R. Liles Nola Redmond, daughter of a Forest Ranger, was 17 when she fell in love with Dwight Windham. Seven years later, when she is CFO at a Veterinary Clinic near Denver, they meet again. Doctor Dwight is one of the veterinary partners. Their romance flourished, but lies, rejection and loss bring her grief, not happiness, and leaving tiny footprints on her heart. As a means of healing, she seeks the solitude of a cabin in the Rocky Mountains near Steamboat Springs with her adopted German Shepherd dog, Erly. Four footprints. Ranger Winn Parkhurst annoys her with his overly-protective attitude, while the Joneses welcome her as the child they’d not been able to conceive; and a casual remark in the town market about her hermit lifestyle has generated a stalker from whom Nola fights to protect herself. When he is found dead near her cabin, Nola is suddenly faced with charges by Ned Millhouse’s angry wife in court. Frightful footprints. Despite her own brush with death, Nola is stunned by the outcome of the investigation and the number of people who have worked to prove her innocence. Especially Ranger Parkhurst—what sort of footprints will he leave?

A mesmerizing tale of adventure, romance and survival. Driven by a mother's sacrifice to save her daughter from abuse, and a lifetime of poverty, deprivation and neglect, Footprints on the Heart unwinds an epic tale of love, loss, and exile in the lives of unforgettable characters, as they navigate the turbulence of six decades against a backdrop of powerful world events. Connected by circumstance and destiny, the lives of a celebrity model in New York, a goatherd from the upper Nile valley, and a young Jew cast out of his native land set off a chain of events amid lyrical evocations of the Egypt that fostered them all. How they navigate their lives and the fault lines that exist in each of them forms the substance of a complex novel of chance, passion, and history. Ripped from their comfort zones and their Egyptian birthplace, their destinies shaped by a land and a world in turmoil, each is propelled into New York worlds of challenge and opportunity, fashion and finance.

Salter also describes the steps of therapy for survivors and proposes that trauma can be transformed rather than just endured.
