An illustrative guide for using the MMPI-2-RF in forensic assessment A primary aim of this text is to inform readers of the most common forensic applications of the instrument and, in doing so, provide a brief overview of the various psycho-legal issues addressed. Each type of forensic psychological evaluation considers challenges both general (e.g., the potential for response bias) and unique (e.g., retrospective assessment in criminal responsibility evaluations), including the impact such challenges have on the use of the MMPI-2-RF in these contexts. The major focus of the book is on MMPI-2-RF interpretation developed through specific case analyses involving the most common psycho-legal questions. Each chapter includes a case study with a full MMPI-2-RF profile illustrating the interpretation and integration of test data into clinical and diagnostic impressions and generating forensic opinions. A book-based exam offering Continuing Education (CE) credit is available for this publication. Visit upress.umn.edu/test-division for more information.

Its greatest usefulness may lie in . . . detection of response bias, an ever-present problem in forensic affairs. --H. J. Eysenck in The European Journal of Psychological Assessment "This is an excellent book, which provides the reader with great insight into the varied forensic applications of the MMPI-2. The strengths and limitations of the instrument in different applications are discussed. The chapters are of consistently high quality and are written by eminent researchers. The authors show that the MMPI-2 provides a sound instrument which can be used in the assessment of a variety of legal issues, but like all psychological instruments it has its limitations and should only be used in conjunction with other forms of assessment and background information. The book shows very clearly how widely used the MMPI-2 has become in forensic applications." --Gisle H. Gudjonsson in Personality & Individual Differences Many of the leading North American scholars on the forensic applications of the MMPI-2 join forces in this carefully edited volume to examine and integrate research and practice on the most widely used psychological test in forensic psychology. Valuable chapters investigate the psychological and legal bases of forensic psychological assessment in general and use of the MMPI-2 in particular in a variety of specific forensic applications involving criminal and civil proceedings. The contributors delve into topics, including the use of the MMPI-2 in the assessment of criminal responsibility, in correctional settings, in neuropsychological evaluations, in computer-based evaluations, in child custody evaluations, and more. In light of the recent revision and publication of the MMPI-2 as well as the growing involvement of psychologists in criminal and civil legal proceedings, Forensic Applications of the MMPI-2 provides substantial information to many professionals and scholars who use this vital assessment tool. This volume is an excellent resource for clinical and legal practitioners who wish to keep abreast of state-of-the-art forensic psychological assessment, and is of particular interest to researchers and advanced students in forensic psychology, psychological assessment, criminology, and clinical/counseling psychology, and social work.

This book provides, in a single volume, an extensive, research-based evaluation of the most popular clinical assessment tools as applied in forensic settings. These widely used instruments often require important modifications in their administration and interpretation when used for forensic purposes, and it is vital that the clinician is intimately familiar with their correct application, as well as their limitations. The test instruments included are analyzed by senior figures in the field of psychological assessment who are uniquely qualified to discuss them because they have either had a crucial role in the development of the tests, or they have dedicated their careers to advancing our understanding of these clinical assessment measures. Each chapter begins with a summary of the development of the assessment instrument in its more traditional applications in clinical settings, and then considers its utilization in forensic settings. The types of forensic issues which have been addressed with that instrument are reviewed, and an illustrative case example is given which reflects the types of uses and limitations of the assessment technique when applied in a forensic context. New in this edition are a chapter on the MMPI-2-RF and separate chapters for the adult and youth versions of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist. Psychologists using assessment instruments in applied forensic settings will find this to be a valuable and practical source of information, as will attorneys wishing to gain an understanding of the application of these psychological assessment approaches in the courtroom.

Malingering Feigning And Response Bias In Psychiatric Psychological Injury written by Gerald Young and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-11 with Philosophy categories.
This book is a comprehensive analysis of the definitions, concepts, and recent research on malingering, feigning, and other response biases in psychological injury/ forensic disability populations. It presents a new model of malingering and related biases, and develops a “diagnostic” system based on it that is applicable to PTSD, chronic pain, and TBI. Included are suggestions for effective practice and future research based on the literature reviews and the new systems, which are useful also because they can be used readily by psychiatrists as much as psychologists. In Malingering, Feigning, and Response Style Assessment in Psychiatric/Psychological Injury, Dr. Young ambitiously sets out to articulate and synthesize the polarities involved in the assessment of response styles in psychological disabilities, including PTSD, pain, and TBI. He does so thoroughly and very even-handedly, neither minimizing the degree that outright faking can be found in substantial numbers of examinees, nor disregarding the possibility that there can be causes for validity test failure other than malingering. He reviews the prior systems for classifying evidence of malingering, and proposes his own criteria for feigned PTSD. These are conservative and well-grounded in the prior literature. Finally, the book contains dozens of very recent references, giving testament to Dr. Young's immersion in the personal injury literature, as might be expected from his experience as founder and Editor in Chief for Psychological Injury and the Law.
