Cities today are the weakest link of both democracy and modern affluence. Their explosive sprawl wastes land that promotes both urban social crises and environmental decay through mass auto movement on outrageously costly freeways--contradicting the inherent role of cities to minimize even the need to travel. The immense sprawl unnecessarily assures human isolation (with the consequent dependence upon television), undermines sustainable ecology, and abandons huge areas of the old inner city. Consequently cities are waste-generating environments that arbitrarily promote production and consumption for purposeless and endless economic growth that can never satisfy human "needs". As basic organizers of life in society, cities can become inspired environments of human development. But they must be built compactly to preserve large, accessible open spaces for recreation, parks, and natural areas. Then they can underwrite an unprecedented human efficiency comparable to productive efficiency. To build such cities, a major shift is required to control their structure and eliminate urban development as merely a promotional waste by real estate speculation. Urban development authorities are required to build cities through principles of land conservation, urban spaciousness, minimal need for transportation, human efficiency, and highly congenial human spaces.

Amidst the tempest of the American Revolution, the Siege of Yorktown stands as a fulcrum upon which the fate of a fledgling nation teeters. Within this crucible, "Eternal Patriots: The Crusade for a More Perfect Union" unfurls a saga stitched from the very essence of fate. Among the relentless crescendo of this violent ballet of war, the quest for the stolen Solum Codex, a vestige from a forgotten utopia, contains insights pivotal to forging a more perfect union. Eliza Sinclair stands as a pillar of defiant passion within this maelstrom of history. Her tavern, a haven for the whispers of rebellion, becomes a sanctuary for change when James Ardmore, the enigmatic Colonial spy cloaked in mystery, crosses its threshold. Their love, whispered by fate and foretold by a seer's vision, kindles a flame against the dark tide of oppression. As cannons roar and Yorktown becomes a fortress under siege, the Solum Codex's hidden truths call out a siren song for those brave enough to listen. In the eye of this storm rages Thomas Reddington, a British Loyalist, bound by honor yet ensnared by a love for Eliza that burns unyielding. His soul, wracked by conflict, must navigate the razor's edge of purpose and loss. "Eternal Patriots" plunges into the deep, tumultuous waters of war-torn hearts, exploring the fierce clash between the bindings of loyalty and the wild calls of destiny. The hunt for the Solum Codex casts a long shadow over love and valor, ensnaring the lives of those who dare to dream of freedom. As the saga unfurls, it promises that our innermost light, the essence of our being, will outshine the darkness of battle and ring out through time-a defiant cry of the unbreakable human spirit.

The book From The Civil Rights Pioneers to The First African American President and Beyond is a description of some significant events that have impacted our culture in negative and positive ways. The negative aspects of some of the events in the book, is indicative of the kind of destructive behaviors that project some of the worst aspects of our culture people and nation. Nevertheless, as stated by our president regarding race relations, injustice, violence, and crime in general in America, we are better than this we must summon our better angels as we interact with each other. The book in a sense is a challenge for us to examine the negative so that we can change those painful experiences into moments of learning and enhancing our attitudes and treatment of each other regardless of our national heritage, ethnicity, cultural differences, economic status, educational and professional backgrounds, and racial differences. The book is a brief description of experiences that we should not just ignore since many of our great leaders have sacrificed so much to make sure that our nation fulfils its responsibility to all American citizens in terms of Justice, equality, civil rights, and full access to achieving the American dream as we all pursue freedom and the accomplishment of our God ordained dreams. The book is also describing how much progress we have made towards achieving the dream of Dr Martin Luther Kings dream of justice and civil rights for all Americas regardless of race.

America is at a pivotal crossroads. The soul of our nation is at stake and in peril. A new public narrative is needed to unite Americans around common values and to counter the increasing discord and acrimony in our politics and culture. The process of healing and creating a more perfect union in our nation must start now. The moral vision of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Beloved Community, which animated and galvanized the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, provides a hopeful way forward. In A More Perfect Union, Adam Russell Taylor, president of Sojourners, reimagines a contemporary version of the Beloved Community that will inspire and unite Americans across generations, geographic and class divides, racial and gender differences, faith traditions, and ideological leanings. In the Beloved Community, neither privilege nor punishment is tied to race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or economic status, and everyone is able to realize their full potential and thrive. Building the Beloved Community requires living out a series of commitments, such as true equality, radical welcome, transformational interdependence, E Pluribus Unum ("out of many, one"), environmental stewardship, nonviolence, and economic equity. By building the Beloved Community we unify the country around a shared moral vision that transcends ideology and partisanship, tapping into our most sacred civic and religious values, enabling our nation to live up to its best ideals and realize a more perfect union.

Dreams Of A More Perfect Union written by Rogan Kersh and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-04 with Political Science categories.

In a brilliantly conceived and elegantly written book, Rogan Kersh investigates the idea of national union in the United States. For much of the period between the colonial era and the late nineteenth century, he shows, "union" was the principal rhetorical means by which Americans expressed shared ideals and a common identity without invoking strong nationalism or centralized governance. Through his exploration of how Americans once succeeded in uniting a diverse and fragmented citizenry, Kersh revives a long-forgotten source of U.S. national identity. Why and how did Americans perceive themselves as one people from the early history of the republic? How did African Americans and others at the margins of U.S. civic culture apply this concept of union? Why did the term disappear from vernacular after the 1880s? In his search for answers, Kersh employs a wide range of methods, including political-theory analysis of writings by James Madison, Frederick Douglass, and Abraham Lincoln and empirical analysis drawing on his own extensive database of American newspapers. The author's findings are persuasive—and often surprising. One intriguing development, for instance, was a strong resurgence of union feelings among Southerners—including prominent former secessionists—after the Civil War. With its fascinating and novel approach, Dreams of a More Perfect Union offers valuable insights about American political history, especially the rise of nationalism and federalism. Equally important, the author's close retracing of the religious, institutional, and other themes coloring the development of unionist thought unveils new knowledge about the origination and transmittal of ideas in a polity.

Among them is one Butch Hogan, a spacejockey in the employ of Transcomet Industries. Butch works atop the highest of all steels, orbiting electromagnetic mass drivers crucial to the asteroid trade. Upon landing, he must choose up sides in the ever-widening war.

Toward A More Perfect Union written by Ann Fairfax Withington and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-12-19 with History categories.

In October of 1774, Congress passed a moral code which banned the theater, cock-fights, and horse races. In abiding by this code, Americans built for themselves a character as a virtuous people which set them apart from the "corrupt" British, prepared them to declare independence, and gave them the confidence to establish republican governments. This book uses the specific moral code of Congress as a springboard into the issues generated by the constitutional crisis that precipitated the American Revolution. Withington argues that the moral program, grounded in popular culture, worked as a political strategy to involve people emotionally in the cause and to broaden the reach of resistance to include all classes and both genders. Withington's integration of political history with the materials of popular culture, including cocker manuals, mortuary paraphernalia, prints, caricatures, anagrams, bawdy comedies and sentimental tragedies, and last speeches of condemned criminals leads the reader into a deeper understanding of the formation and significance of the revolutionary ideology
