This qualitative study examined the perceptions of administrators and teachers regarding the effects of classroom walkthrough observations on classroom instruction and student achievement. Twenty-five middle school core subject area teachers and eight middle school administrators, from two public school districts in southeastern Pennsylvania, responded to an online survey tool that included both Likert-scale and open-ended questions. Additionally, nine teachers and four administrators participated in qualitative interviews. The results of the study revealed that teachers and administrators believe that formative feedback from classroom walkthrough observations is a critical component to increasing student achievement by improving teachers' instructional practices. The data collected and analyzed through this study indicated that frequency of walkthroughs, specific look-fors, and timely and detailed formative feedback are necessary components for walkthroughs to positively impact instructional delivery and student achievement. The findings of this study will contribute to existing research and support future research.
