I vuoti che il libro descrive sono spazi prodotti attraverso un processo di sottrazione, che estrae la materia sostituendola con lo spazio. È una modalità compositiva e costruttiva arcaica, riscoperta dal Moderno e utilizzata oggi da molti artisti e architetti contemporanei. Forme del vuoto indaga e ri-conosce i diversi caratteri che questo spazio assume. Esso si colloca tra interno ed esterno, sui bordi, nei luoghi di confine dell'architettura. La sua presenza muta profondamente gli oggetti architettonici, li trasforma in relazionali, capaci di tessere molteplici interazioni con i soggetti che li abitano e con i paesaggi urbani che li circondano, di produrre nuovi significati attraverso la modificazione di tipi e spazi consolidati nella storia dell'architettura e della città, di generare nuove possibilità del sentire. Le diverse forme che il vuoto sottratto assume sono indagate attraverso la descrizione e la rappresentazione diagrammatica delle opere che, messe in sequenza, costruiscono un percorso, dall'interno verso l'esterno, che intende mostrare il progressivo processo di contaminazione dell'oggetto architettonico contemporaneo con il contesto in cui si colloca, la perdita di significato delle tradizionali contrapposizioni pubblico-privato, aperto-chiuso, figura-sfondo e la loro sostituzione con categorie intermedie che rispecchiano la volontà relazionale di molta architettura contemporanea. GIANPAOLA SPIRITO (Napoli, 1974), è architetto, dottore di ricerca in Composizione architettonica e professore a contratto presso la Facoltà di Architettura dell'Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza". Crepet affronta il difficile tema del suicidio - una delle prime cause di morte tra i giovani - in modo esaustivo, sia per le motivazioni e/o altri fattori di rischio che potrebbero esserne all'origine, sia per l'agire dei servizi territoriali ed i possibili interventi con la famiglia, sia per gli interventi di prevenzione che potrebbero essere messi in atto. Il punto di partenza è l'analisi del concetto di morte nella prima adolescenza, le preoccupazioni e i sentimenti dei giovani e il loro punto di vista in riguardo alle condotte suicidiarie proprie e dei coetanei. Una storia emblematica, utilizzata come paradigma, serve a Crepet per riflettere sull'elaborazione del lutto - individuale e collettiva - da parte di un gruppo di operatori psichiatrici e dei familiari. L'influenza che potrebbero avere i mezzi di comunicazione di massa viene discussa sia per quanto riguarda il rischio di instabilità emotiva legato all'immaginario collettivo veicolato dai media che "appare tanto improbabile quanto seducente", sia per la loro influenza sulle condotte suicidiarie (suicidio imitativo). Le diverse considerazioni sono suffragate da ricerche epidemiologiche e sociali svolte in Italia e all'estero e vengono messe a confronto con le principali teorie interpretative. Il linguaggio è accessibile e la lettura agevole; ciò rende il libro utile non solo agli operatori sanitari, ma a tutti coloro che hanno un ruolo nell'accompagnamento e nell'educazione dei giovani, primi fra tutti i familiari e i docenti.
