The decisions of the Indian State in the last decade have put India into a high growth trajectory - not just in terms of economic growth but also in the geopolitical, social and developmental domains. India’s growth story and development policies have become a beacon for other developing countries. The position that India is in today is a result of all the aforementioned policy decisions. However, through our interactions with youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years, we realised that they lack this background understanding of how their lives are impacted and improved by the decisions of the Indian State. To address this gap, we decided to write this book. Our book will help you understand what the challenges were faced by India in the geopolitical, governance, cultural, women & youth and climate fronts and how the policies of the Indian State have attempted to solve these challenges. Consequently, the book is divided into five sections: Geopolitics, Digitalisation & Governance, Decolonisation of Indian Ethos, Women & Youth and Climate & Sustainability. We have also attempted to suggest how the policy framework in these domains can be improved and we would very much like the readers to engage with us over them. India is roaring today! And this book is an attempt to explain to the readers, what is making India roar towards glory.

Portuguese explorations opened the sea-route to Asia, bringing armed trading to the Indian Ocean. This Element examines the impact of the 1511 Portuguese conquest of the port-kingdom of Melaka on early travel literature. Putting into dialogue accounts from Portuguese, mestiço, and Malay perspectives, this study re-examines early modern 'discovery' as a cross-cultural trope. Trade and travel were intertwined while structured by religion. Rather than newness or wonder, Portuguese representations focus on recovering what is known and grafting Asian knowledges-including local histories-onto European epistemologies. Framing Portuguese rule as a continuation of the sultanate, they re-spatialize Melaka into a European city. However, this model is complicated by a second one of accidental discovery facilitated by native agents. For Malay texts too, travel traverses known routes and spaces. Malay travelers insert themselves into foreign spaces by forging new kinship alliances, even as indigenous networks were increasingly disrupted by European incursions.

Obesity is a global public health problem of crucial importance. Obesity rates remain high in high-income countries and are rapidly increasing in low- and middle- income countries. Concurrently, the global consumption of unhealthy products, such as soft drinks and processed foods, continues to rise. The ongoing expansion of multinational food and beverage companies, or ‘Big Food’, is a key factor behind these trends. This collection provides critical insight into the global expansion of ‘Big Food’, including its incursion into low-and-middle income countries. It examines the changing dynamics of the global food supply, and discusses how low-income countries can alter the ‘Big Food’-diet from the bottom-up. It examines a number of issues related to ‘Big Food’ marketing strategies, including the way in which they advertise to youths and the rural poor. These issues are discussed in terms of their public health implications, and their relation to public health activities, for example ‘soda taxes’, and the promotion of nutritionally-healthier products.
