Excerpt from Foundry Cost Accounting, Practice and Procedure NO attempt has been made to present all that might be said on the subject of foundry costs. On the contrary, the aim has been, while omitting no essential details, to be brief and concise and to reduce to a minimum the description essential to a clear presentation Of the principles. Excerpt from Foundry Cost Accounting, Practice and Procedure Several excellent books have been written within the past ten years on the subject of cost accounting; and while the principles have been set forth more or less clearly and may be said to be of general application, yet the cost accountant with limited experience ordinarily has difficulty in applying them to a particular industry. There arc many industries that are peculiarly different and where it is difficult and sometimes impracticable to apply the conventional cost accounting principles and procedure. This is particularly true in the foundry industry. In this volume, therefore, the aim has been:- (1) To set forth in a simple and direct manner, for the guidance of the foundry cost accountant, practical principles of accounting that are applicable to the foundry industry, and to show methods of collecting the cost data and of accurately determining production costs. (2) To impress upon the executive and the management the importance of an accurate knowledge of costs and the dangers of a price policy that is not founded on production costs. No attempt has been made to present all that might be said on the subject of foundry costs. On the contrary, the aim has been, while omitting no essential details, to be brief and concise and to reduce to a minimum the descriptio essential to a clear presentation of the principles. Every principle of cost accounting set forth herein is not only applicable to foundry practice but is being used in a thoroughly practicable manner and is giving satisfactory results. It is not claimed that the procedure outlined is exactly suitable to all foundries. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Bookkeeping and Cost Accounting for Factories The author of this treatise was a bookkeeper and cost accountant for some years before he became an engineer, and many times during his career as an engineer and as manager of works he had occasion to install systems of bookkeeping and cost accounting and to audit books. In this way, and by reading much of the extensive literature on accounting, he has kept in touch for over forty years with the development of accounting practice. More than twenty years ago he was urged by the president of one of the largest manufacturing corporations in New England to write a book on factory cost accounting, but he was then too busy with other matters and the suggested book had to be postponed to the indefinite future. Some three years ago the suggestion was repeated at a conference of several professional accountants, who agreed that the literature on cost accounting was in a most chaotic shape and was altogether unsatisfactory. In Chapter III material and material costs are discussed with reference to the practice of a machine shop, or similar metal working industry. The principles which govern purchasing, however, and many relating to receiving, storing and issuing materials, are universal in their application. In Chapter IV on labor costs, the exposition of accounting principles and practice is concerned with work done on definite manufacturing orders (or similar orders for repairs, construction, maintenance, or operating expenses). There are, however, some articles manufactured which for various reasons cannot be conveniently segregated into lots, and their cost of manufacture accumulated on job orders. This is true of some kinds of textiles, the tanning of leather and the manufacture of products by continuous operations, such as flour, brick or cement. Products like candy, boots and shoes and the cheaper jewelry, although made in well defined lots, cannot effectively have their manufacturing cost reckoned actually in the same units. Excerpt from Cost Accounting to Aid Production: A Practical Study of Scientific Cost Accounting Looking through the form and semblance Of things he declared, further, that cost accounting was unworthy Of any place in industry if it did not contribute to production, and, not content with stopping at this point, he re-enforced his challenge by pointing out better and improved methods, by showing the way in which cost accounting could become an aid to production. In all this work he has endeavored to stimulate and arouse the thinking Of men, realizing that as the years pass greater progress can be secured by this means than by working for the adoption of any particular accounting scheme or plan. Excerpt from Manufacturing Costs and Accounts While many excellent treatises exist on Cost Accounting, there is none, as far as I know, that can be placed in the hands Of a student for the purpose of gradually introducing him to the underlying principles on which manufacturing accounting of all 'kinds must rest. Principles Of Cost Accounting Classic Reprint written by John R. Wildman and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-15 with Business & Economics categories.

Excerpt from Principles of Cost Accounting The motive which prompted the author to prepare and publish Cost Accounting, was the desire to supply a demand for a text book on the part of the students in New York University School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. In presenting it for public consideration it is desired to have clearly understood the fact that it is intended as a text book especially adapted to the needs of students, and is not in tended as a general reference work. The supply of literature on the subject of cost account ing 13 increasing rapidly. The quality of such literature is of a high order. The fault to be found with it from the point of View of a teacher is that it is too highly specialized. The tendency on the part of authors on this subject is to select some particular industry or line of production and describe a particular system, attempting to make such typical of the entire subject. Most systems are accompanied by elaborate forms. In fact it may be said that many systems are nothing more than a collection of forms. This practice has been carried to such an extent that it would not be extravagant to state that the average student looks upon the study of cost accounting as a matter of becoming familiar with certain specific forms comprising a particular system. In this maze of forms the student becomes lost and the principles underlying the forms are entirely overlooked.
