For a number of years it has been a General Motors Research Laboratories custom to hold a symposium on a subject which is new and emerging, and to invite the best people in the world in that subject to come together to talk to each other. Initially, I had some difficulty in regarding foundry processes as a new and emerging subject. Copper alloys have been in foundry practice for about six thousand years. Foundrymen working with those alloys have been recognized, as such, for nearly all that time. Iron has a much shorter history, probably only three or four thousand years. So what's new? What is new is that a subject which has always been so complex and so difficult that it could only be a craft skill, with bits and pieces of knowledge and bits and pieces of insight, has begun to yield to new abilities to solve very complex problems. We do this now because we can handle great amounts of data by computational means, using new and more complicated theoretical treatments than we could deal with before. In fact, we have a new technology with which we can attack these terribly difficult problems. Thus, foundry processing is becoming a new subject because new things can be done with it.

Casting Processes And Modelling Of Metallic Materials written by Zak Abdallah and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book, Casting Processes and Modelling of Metallic Materials, explores the various casting and modelling activities related to metallic alloy systems. The book provides results of research work conducted by experts from all over the globe to add to the research community in the era of the casting process and modelling. The book was edited by two experts in the field of materials science and modelling, Dr. Abdallah and Dr. Aldoumani, whom both have several publications in peer-reviewed journals, worldwide conferences, and scientific books. The book introduces the casting processes and then discusses the various issues and possible solutions. Over the past years, various models have been proposed and utilized to predict the performance of castings. Some of these models proved to be accurate whereas others failed to predict the casting performance. The strength of any predictive tool depends on the employment of physically meaningful parameters that replicate the real-life conditions. This has been illustrated in the current book with such predictive models and finite element (FE) modelling to illustrate the behaviour of castings in real-life conditions.

Foundry Technology written by Peter Beeley and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-08-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Foundry Technology brings together basic metal casting phenomena, foundry techniques and product characteristics in a single work of reference. Peter Beeley was a foundry manager before he became a senior lecturer in metallurgy, and subsequently maintained continuous links with the castings industry and associated research activities and publications. His book is designed to serve as a bridge between the study of the basic principles of metal founding and their application in the producing and user industries. A particular aim of Foundry Technology is to assist engineers and engineering students in appreciating the role of castings in design and materials selection. Orthodox and specialized casting processes, and both ferrous and non-ferrous founding are considered on a comparative basis, and the place of castings in design is critically examined and related to other products. The revised edition takes account of the main changes in casting processes and products since the publication of the original edition in 1972. While retaining treatments of basic aspects of molding, solidification, cast structures and feeding, newer developments in modeling and rapid prototyping are reviewed, together with quality, environmental, health and other issues of growing importance. New edition of well-known book Fully updated with latest technology

Campbell’s Complete Casting Handbook: Metal Casting Processes, Techniques and Design, Second Edition provides an update to the first single-volume guide to cover modern principles and processes in such breadth and depth, while also retaining a clear, practical focus. The work has a unique viewpoint, interpreting the behavior of castings, and metals as a whole, in terms of their biofilm content, the largely invisible casting defects which control much of the structure and behavior of metals. This new edition includes new findings, many from John Campbell’s own research, on crack initiation, contact pouring, vortex gates, and the Cosworth Process. Delivers the expert advice that engineers need to make successful and profitable casting decisions Ideal reference for those interested in solidification, vortex gates, nucleation, biofilm, remelting, and molding Follows a logical, two-part structure that covers both casting metallurgy and casting manufacture Contains established, must-have information, such as Campbell’s ‘10 Rules’ for successful casting manufacture Includes numerous updates and revisions based on recent breakthroughs in the industry
