Fracture Zone 2015 written by Jim Johnson and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11 with Business & Economics categories.

Fracture Zone 2015 is Jim Johnson's absorbing, well-documented analysis of current economic events, political failures, and potent forces threatening the United States and the world. Johnson draws succinct urgent conclusions using colorful storytelling from across the history of America's rise.An intensifying “Fracture Zone” destroys American national power. United States dominance as the sole global superpower is ending. In the wake of diminishing US leadership, the myth of “democracy” that is spreading to the Middle East through the Arab Spring states is actually war and fundamentalism engulfing the region surrounding Israel.Runaway government is choking the formerly vibrant American economy, the engine of our success. America's once powerful multilateral alliances are failing: Europe is in decline, Japan is impotent, and the BRICs are slowing. We mask the near collapse of global banking in 2008 with unlimited central bank expansion, but this is no recovery. New bubbles don't solve old problems and withdrawal from addictive policies yields fateful consequences. ZIRP, “flight to quality,” endless QE, and competing currency devaluations are tactical facets of monetary war and a prelude to wider conflict. Many American leaders agree with the seriousness of our problems, but Fracture Zone 2015 uniquely weaves interconnected domestic policies and foreign affairs. This prescient book applies a new lens to the long view of history, and, with essential insights, it impressively argues the very preservation of America's heritage that hangs in the balance. Often shocking, it is a fascinating, eye-opening reckoning of a diminishing America.

Earthquakes are some of the most dynamic features of the Earth. This multidisciplinary volume presents an overview of earthquake processes and properties including the physics of dynamic faulting, fault fabric and mechanics, physical and chemical properties of fault zones, dynamic rupture processes, and numerical modeling of fault zones during seismic rupture. This volume examines questions such as: • What are the dynamic processes recorded in fault gouge? • What can we learn about rupture dynamics from laboratory experiments? • How do on-fault and off-fault properties affect seismic ruptures? • How do fault zones evolve over time? Fault Zone Dynamic Processes: Evolution of Fault Properties During Seismic Rupture is a valuable resource for scientists, researchers and students from across the geosciences interested in the earthquakes processes.

This volume examines the impact of and responses to historic earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the Azores. Study is placed in the contexts of: the history and geography of this fascinating archipelago; progress being made in predicting future events and policies of disaster risk reduction. This is the only volume to consider the earthquake and volcanic histories of the Azores across the whole archipelago and is based, not only on contemporary published research, but also on the detailed study of archival source materials. The authors seek to show how extreme environmental events, as expressed through eruptions, earthquakes and related processes operating in the past may be considered using both complementary scientific and social scientific perspectives in order to reveal the ways in which Azorean society has been shaped by both an isolated location in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and the ever present threat of environmental uncertainty. Chapter 2, which analyses in depth the geology and tectonics of the islands is of more specialist interest, but technical terms are fully explained so as to widen the accessibility of this material. The audience for this volume includes all those who are interested in the geology, geography, history and hazard responses in the Azores. It is written, not just for the educated general reader, but for the specialist earth scientist and hazard researcher.

Bottom Gravity Currents And Overflows In Deep Channels Of The Atlantic Ocean written by Eugene G. Morozov and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-01 with Science categories.

This book is dedicated to the analysis of bottom waters flows through underwater channels of the Atlantic Ocean. The study is based on recent observations of the authors, analysis of historical data, numerical modeling, and literature review. For example, studying both the measurements from the World Ocean Circulation experiment in the 1990s and recent measurements reveals the decadal variations of water properties in the ocean. Seawater is cooled at high latitudes, descends to the ocean bottom, and slowly flows to the tropical latitudes and further. This current is slow in the deep basins, but intensifies in the abyssal channels connecting the basins. The current overflows submarine topographic structures and sometimes forms deep cataracts when water descends over slopes by several hundred meters. The flow of Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW) is studied on the basis of CTD sections combined with Lowered Acoustic Doppler Profiling (LADCP) carried out annually, and long-term moored measurements of currents. This book is a collection of oceanographic data, interpretation, and analysis, which can be used by field oceanographers, specialists in numerical modeling, and students who specialize in oceanography.

This volume presents a collection of contributions that were published in "Pure and Applied Geophysics - pageoph" and which deals with the major earthquake that hit Illapel, Chile on September 16, 2015 with magnitude 8.3, and associated trans-oceanic tsunami. The subducting Nazca plate beneath the Andes caused this major earthquake, generating strong shaking, permanent deformation, free oscillations of the Earth, and tsunamis. This event occurred in the flat-angle subducting segment of the plate. The generated tsunami spread throughout the entire Pacific Ocean and was recorded by numerous coastal tide gauges and open-ocean DART stations. All articles give an up-to-date account of research in one of the most active seismic zones worldwide. An introductory article by Kenji Satake rounds this collection off.
