This is the first comprehensive monograph on the work of Michael Webb, an artist who is also a trained architect and who operates at the intersection of the two disciplines. He is widely known for creatively exploring the boundaries of drawing techniques, specifically perspectival projection. Webb's aspirations for and re-conceptions of both built and natural environments are revealed between a twenty-year study on perspective projection that utilizes as its subjects the Regatta Course at Henley-on-Thames in England, and early work, some of which was done in conjunction with Archigram, an avant-garde group concerned with theorizing and critiquing architecture which formed during the 1960s at the Architectural Association in London. The publication connects nearly sixty years of the artist's work into a continuously evolving narrative about the relationship between architecture, the automobile, and landscape. Webb's work investigates these relationships using notions of time, space, and speed, and analogue drawing tools such as pencil and collage, which are often rendered later in oil paint. The book features over 150 drawings: artistic works rooted in analytical thinking and structured around architectural elements and notational systems.

The German artist Katharina Grosse has fulfilled her dream of a tailor-made studio, a place large enough to accommodate her large-scale works and where an industrial atmosphere is combined with soft light and neutral walls. In close cooperation with the artist, the firm Augustin und Frank Architekten planned the studio in Berlin's Mitte neighborhood and completed it in 2007. The result is a compact reinforced concrete cube containing workrooms, storerooms, an archive, offices and living space. The contributors to this publication use Grosse's studio as a springboard to explore the relationship between painting and architecture, and the role that studios play in the production of art. Numerous photographs show the raw architecture of the new building and the artist's appropriation of the space. With contributions by Georg Augustin, Laura Bieger, Andreas Denk, Ulrich Loock and Philip Ursprung.

On the transformation of a favela--an urban success story on the Brazilian coast This illustrated volume documents the transformation of the favela Mãe Luíza, as an example of how to build community, create citizenship and identity, and promote initiative and participation. Alongside a story by Brazilian author Paulo Lins, short articles and essays trace the history of Mãe Luíza from the point of view of local activists, as well as invited authors from various fields. With roughly 15,000 inhabitants, Mãe Luíza, located near the ocean in the Brazilian city of Natal, is a favela with all the familiar grievances. In 1984, Italian transplant Padre Sabino Gentili founded the Centro Sócio. With community participation, the Centro created much-needed social infrastructure.
