Oktober 1789 markiert das erste massive Eingreifen der Frauen in den Gang der Französischen Revolution. Durch die Initiative der Oktobertage intervenierten die Pariserinnen gegen die akuten sozialökonomischen und politischen Krisenerscheinungen, festigten so die Errungenschaften der Julirevolution und brachten den Monarchen Ludwig XVI., die königliche Familie sowie die Nationalversammlung zurück in die Hauptstadt. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Beweggründe der Marschteilnehmerinnen zu analysieren. Waren die Motive der Initiative primär sozialökonomischer oder politischer Natur? Ist der Marsch folglich als sozialökonomische Konsequenz oder als politische Aktion zu bewerten? Wie ging der Protestzug von statten? Lassen sich im spezifischen Verhalten der Aufständischen politische Implikationen erkennen? Wie fiel die Rezeption der Zeitgenossen aus? Blieben Frauen auch in den folgenden Revolutionsjahren aktiv? Als Quellen dienen das Lied der Fischweiber, zeitgenössische Augenzeugenberichte, Zeitungsartikel, Verhörprotokolle, die Rechtfertigungsschrift von Reine-Louise Audu, der Gründungsaufruf des politischen Frauenklubs Société des Citoyennes Républicaines Révolutionnaires sowie die Rede für das Verbot der Frauenvereinigungen von dem Abgeordneten Amar.
