Jahrhundert - Analyse und Rezeption von Musikwerken und künstlerischen Traditionen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit möchte sich tiefgehend mit dem von Robert Schumann vertonten Liederzyklus "Frauenliebe und –leben op. 42" beschäftigen. Um diesen besser verstehen zu können, soll ein besonderer Wert auf die Entstehungsgeschichte gelegt werden. Da der Zyklus unmittelbar nach dem gerichtlichen Beschluss zum Einverständnis der Heirat entstand, soll auf die für Robert Schumann unvorstellbar schwere Zeit vor der Entstehung des Liederzyklus eingegangen werden. Die jahrelange Auseinandersetzung zwischen Schumann und seinem ehemaligen Lehrer Friedrich Wieck, dessen Tochter er heiraten wollte, wird in diesem Zusammenhang beleuchtet. Anschließend sollen Bezüge Schumanns zu Adelbert Chamissos Gedichtszyklus, der die Textgrundlage zu Schumanns Liederzyklus bildet, hergestellt werden. Dabei sollen Schumanns Ehe mit Clara Schumann und ihr gegenseitiger Umgang miteinander betrachtet werden. Daraufhin wird der Liederzyklus in seinem äußeren Aufbau vorgestellt, ehe zwei Stücke – das erste Lied „Seit ich ihn gesehen“ und das achte Lied „Nun hast du mir den ersten Schmerz getan“ – aus dem Zyklus analysiert werden sollen. Da es den Rahmen dieser Hausarbeit sprengen würde, soll das Klaviernachspiel aus dem achten Lied unberücksichtigt bleiben. Robert Schumanns Leben ist geprägt von vielen Schicksalsschlägen und schwierigen Zeiten. So war es unter anderem der frühe Tod des Vaters – Robert war gerade 16 Jahre alt – sowie auch die frühen Tode zwei seiner Brüder (Julius 1833, Eduard 1839), die Schumann in Trauer versetzten. Auch der frühe Tod Robert Schumanns im Alter von 46 Jahren änderte nichts daran, dass er dennoch all seine Geschwister überlebte. Der dritte Bruder Carl starb 1849, Schumanns Schwester Emelie litt an Depressionen und beging 1825 – ein Jahr vor dem Tod des Vaters – im Alter von 29 Jahren Selbstmord. Gleichzeitig durchlebte Schumann jedoch auch Zeiten höchster Glückseligkeit und Zufriedenheit, als er beispielsweise seine Geliebte Clara Wieck nach jahrelangem Kampf und Bemühen endlich zur Frau nehmen durfte. Am Ende waren es womöglich gerade diese starken Gegensätze, die zu seinen gesundheitlichen Problemen und seinem frühen Tod führten.
