Later, as a result of his involvement with the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disobedience, his role as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and his work in the burgeoning peace movement, Fred Harris began to articulate his plans for New Populism - a program designed for millions of Americans who believed that government should serve the people and not special interests. In 1972 and 1976, Harris launched New Populist campaigns for the presidency, but, in both instances, inadequate funding forced him to abandon his efforts."

Does People Do It written by Fred L. Harris and has been published by University of Oklahoma Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-22 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

One of Oklahoma’s most famous native sons, Fred Harris faced life’s challenges with the same resolve as a favorite uncle: “Does people do it? If people does it, I can do it.” In this engaging memoir, he describes how he met those challenges head-on. A child of the Great Depression, Harris grew up in the small town of Walters, Oklahoma, where he was born in a two-room house. He describes that upbringing and his initiation into state politics, and tells how he was elected to the U.S. Senate at the age of thirty-three. As he recounts his experiences in national politics, he yields an insightful look at the turbulent 1960s and 1970s. Earning a reputation as a “new populist,” Harris chaired the national Democratic Party and was a serious presidential candidate. Along the way, he encountered such giants as Lyndon B. Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, and Robert F. Kennedy. Enlivening his account with firsthand conversations, Harris contributes to our understanding of the motivations and personalities of these figures—including the infamous tensions between Johnson and Kennedy. Despite rubbing elbows with such power brokers, Harris maintained his own reputation as a down-to-earth man of the people whose advocacy included American Indian causes. Harris accomplished much in his distinguished career, championing human rights at home and around the world. His masterfully written memoir attests to a philosophical consistency and humane liberalism that today are all too rare.

Report From A Last Survivor written by Fred Harris and has been published by University of New Mexico Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-01 with Political Science categories.

Fred Harris is the last surviving member of the Kerner Rights Commission, famously created by President Lyndon Johnson following the terrible riots, disorders, and violent protests that exploded in so many of America’s cities in the “long hot summer” of 1967. He is the last survivor of the 1964 “Four Back Bench US Senators,” which consisted of Walter Mondale of Minnesota, Joseph Tydings of Maryland, Fred Harris of Oklahoma, and Robert Kennedy of New York. He is also the senior surviving former member of the US Senate and one of two “last surviving” Democratic presidential candidates to run in 1976—the other being President Jimmy Carter Jr. Report from a Last Survivor tells Fred Harris’s many stories: some serious, some funny, and all true. Each story forms a part of this report of a last survivor, a long look back over ninety-three years and counting of a rich life of public service and personal commitment.

Losing The Center written by Jeffrey Bloodworth and has been published by University Press of Kentucky this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-01 with History categories.

Many Americans consider John F. Kennedy's presidency to represent the apex of American liberalism. Kennedy's "Vital Center" blueprint united middle-class and working-class Democrats and promoted freedom abroad while recognizing the limits of American power. Liberalism thrived in the early 1960s, but its heyday was short-lived. In L osing the Center, Jeffrey Bloodworth demonstrates how and why the once-dominant ideology began its steep decline, exploring its failures through the biographies of some of the Democratic Party's most important leaders, including Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Henry "Scoop" Jackson, Bella Abzug, Harold Ford Sr., and Jimmy Carter. By illuminating historical events through the stories of the people at the center of the action, Bloodworth sheds new light on topics such as feminism, the environment, the liberal abandonment of the working class, and civil rights legislation. This meticulously researched study authoritatively argues that liberalism's demise was prompted not by a "Republican revolution" or the mistakes of a few prominent politicians, but instead by decades of ideological incoherence and political ineptitude among liberals. Bloodworth demonstrates that Democrats caused their own party's decline by failing to realize that their policies contradicted the priorities of mainstream voters, who were more concerned about social issues than economic ones. With its unique biographical approach and masterful use of archival materials, this detailed and accessible book promises to stand as one of the definitive texts on the state of American liberalism in the second half of the twentieth century.

Multirate Signal processing can improve system performance and reduce costs in applications ranging from laboratory instruments, cable modems, wireless systems, satellites, Radar, Sonar, and consumer entertainment products. This second edition continues to offer a systematic, clear, and intuitive introduction to multirate signal processing for working engineers and system designers. Significant new material and fresh concepts, including Green Signal Processing techniques have been introduced. The author uses extensive examples and figures to illustrate a wide range of multirate techniques, from basic resampling to leading-edge cascade and multi-stage filter structures. Along the way he draws on extensive research and consulting experience to introduce processing “tricks” shown to maximize performance and efficiency. Coverage includes:• Effect of sampling and resampling in time and frequency domains• Relationships between FIR filter specifications and filter length (# of taps)• Window design and equal-ripple (Remez) design techniques• Square-Root Nyquist and Half-band Filters including new enhancements• Polyphase FIR filters: up-sampling, down-sampling• Polyphase M-path analysis and synthesis channelizers and cascade pairs• Polyphase interpolators for arbitrary sample rate changes• Dyadic half-band filters, quadrature mirror filters• Channel banks for multiple arbitrary bandwidths and center frequencies • Comprehensive coverage of recursive all-pass filters and channelizers, non-uniform and uniform phase, mixed recursive and non-recursive• Comparisons with traditional DSP designs• Extensive applications coverage throughout
