The 13th Amendment Freedom Week Manual is a guide to establishing a yearly commemorative week that educates and celebrates the ideals of freedom. It is inclusive, not exclusive. This ‘Freedom Week’ is assembled so that all Americans (blacks, whites, etc.) can benefit from its celebration. It can also include people worldwide, not just Americans, who love freedom everywhere. It is a celebration that helps to heal racial conflict rather than divide. ‘The 13th Amendment Freedom Week’ is not a celebration to simply remember the horrors of slavery. It is a time to remember the ideas and benefits of freedom. This ‘13th Amendment Freedom Week Manual’ lays the foundation for the ‘13th Amendment Freedom Week Movement.’ Together they work to establish the ‘13th Amendment Freedom Week.’

Festivals Of Freedom written by Mitch Kachun and has been published by Liverpool University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-03-01 with Social Science categories.

With the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in 1808, many African Americans began calling for "a day of publick thanksgiving" to commemorate this important step toward freedom. During the ensuing century, black leaders built on this foundation and constructed a distinctive and vibrant tradition through their celebrations of the end of slavery in New York State, the British West Indies, and eventually the United States as a whole. In this revealing study, Mitch Kachun explores the multiple functions and contested meanings surrounding African American emancipation celebrations from the abolition of the slave trade to the fiftieth anniversary of U.S. emancipation. Excluded from July Fourth and other American nationalist rituals for most of this period, black activists used these festivals of freedom to encourage community building and race uplift. Kachun demonstrates that, even as these annual rituals helped define African Americans as a people by fostering a sense of shared history, heritage, and identity, they were also sites of ambiguity and conflict. Freedom celebrations served as occasions for debate over black representations in the public sphere, struggles for group leadership, and contests over collective memory and its meaning. Based on extensive research in African American newspapers and oration texts, this book retraces a vital if often overlooked tradition in African American political culture and addresses important issues about black participation in the public sphere. By illuminating the origins of black Americans' public commemorations, it also helps explain why there have been increasing calls in recent years to make the "Juneteenth" observance of emancipation an American -- not just an African American -- day of commemoration.

Discover the main features of Emancipation Day celebrations, learn about the people of African ancestry’s struggle for freedom, and the victories achieved in the push for equality into the 21st century. On August 1, 1834, 800,000 enslaved Africans in the British colonies, including Canada, were declared free. The story of Emancipation Day, a little-known part of Canadian history, has never been accessible to the teen reader through either the school curriculum or classroom resources, despite its significance in the story of Canada. Talking About Freedom closes this gap by exploring both the background to August 1 commemorations across Canada and the importance of these long-established annual celebrations. What is the connection between the Caribana festivities in Toronto and emancipation? Why are some communities restoring Emancipation Day to their roster of annual events? Talking About Freedom introduces a range of personalities and happenings through historical facts, memorable personal recollections, vivid images, and detailed narratives. Included are connections to the ongoing struggles of people of African ancestry as they seek to achieve equality, with insightful links woven across the past, present, and future.

The Freedom Formula Limited Government + Free Enterprise Economics + Personal Responsibility + God Consciousness = Freedom! The Slavery Formula Statism + (Socialism, Communism) + Irresponsibility + Atheism = Slavery, Poverty and Death! Prosperity or the elimination of poverty is a by-product of freedom. A by-product does not have its origin in itself. It has its origin in something superior to it. Therefore, freedom (limited government, free-market economics, personal responsibility, and God Consciousness) is the origin and should be the primary goal and focus if humans want to eliminate poverty. A communist (socialist) system can be changed back to a free market economic system by reversing the ten planks outlined in The Communist Manifesto. The more they are reversed, the freer the market forces will become. www.13thamendmentfreedomweek.com
