Could a revolutionary used to running wild win the heart of a world-weary journalist? Liam Bartlett had nearly lost his life in San Salustiano, and for five years the correspondent had done his best to silence his ghosts. But when Marisala Bolivar arrived in Boston, all his memories returned—along with a white-hot hunger for the young rebel who'd hidden him and kept him alive! Marisala ached for Liam's touch, so long forbidden but now hers to fight for with a woman's fierce need. Could a love once forged in fire at last burn true? In this unforgettably sensual love story, Suzanne Brockmann creates a portrait of two daredevil survivors, tested by sorrow and bound by destiny to heal each other's wounds. A flame who beckoned him out of the darkness, she understood his pain as no one ever would, but could he soothe her hidden scars by offering her his soul?

The Price of Freedom Denied shows that, contrary to popular opinion, ensuring religious freedom for all reduces violent religious persecution and conflict. Others have suggested that restrictions on religion are necessary to maintain order or preserve a peaceful religious homogeneity. Brian J. Grim and Roger Finke show that restricting religious freedoms is associated with higher levels of violent persecution. Relying on a new source of coded data for nearly 200 countries and case studies of six countries, the book offers a global profile of religious freedom and religious persecution. Grim and Finke report that persecution is evident in all regions and is standard fare for many. They also find that religious freedoms are routinely denied and that government and the society at large serve to restrict these freedoms. They conclude that the price of freedom denied is high indeed.

The Price of Freedom surveys and explains the fascinating and intricate history of East Central Europe - the present day countries of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Taking a thematic approach, the author explores such issues and controversies as the tension between the industrial developed West and the agrarian East Central Europe, the rise of modern nationalism, democracy and authoritarianism and Communism. While the countries of East Central Europe have differed dramatically from one another, the author asserts that they have been bound by a certain community of fate. These comparisons are traced through the Middle Ages and the Early Modern era to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This exploration reveals that it is no accident that the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland were the first among the former Soviet bloc nations to be admitted to NATO, and are likely to become the first members of the expanded European Union. Thus an understanding of their experiences, contributions and their place within the European community of nations vastly enriches our knowledge of Europe's past and present. The second edition of this distinguished book brings the history of the region up to date. It discusses the events of the post-communist decade of the 1990s and the problems resulting from the transition to democracy and market economy.

Reissue (Original Publication Date: April 1997) His brother loved her... When Kayla Grey travels from Boston to Montana, the last thing she expects is to find her life in danger from a sudden, treacherous blizzard. And after she’s rescued, she certainly doesn’t expect to share heated, fireside kisses with the handsome, blue-eyed cowboy who saved her life. But then she discovers her hero is the very person she’s flown so far to find—he’s the brother of the man who’d proposed marriage mere weeks before dying in a tragic accident. Montana rancher Cal Bartlett devoted his life to his younger brother, Liam. Ten years older, he’d raised the kid, giving him everything his heart desired, including the top-notch education that helped Liam win his job as a foreign correspondent for a major newspaper—a job that got him killed two long, bleak years ago. But now Kayla—the woman his brother loved, a woman Cal shouldn't desire—has come to ask a favor. She’s heard the whisper of a rumor that Liam is alive—held in a secret prison, deep in the jungles of the tiny nation of San Salustiano. Kayla’s determined to travel to the dangerous, war-torn island with Cal, on the pretense of a romantic vacation, but in truth to search for clues. Together, they’ll risk their lives on the slim hope that Liam might still be alive. It’s an impossibly risky and dangerous journey—and the dead last thing either Cal or Kayla expects is to fall in love along the way.... Set in 1998 in Asylum, Montana, San Salustiano, and Boston, Massachusetts, Forbidden is a full length novel of 50K words or 212 pages. It’s the first in Brockmann’s two-book Bartlett Brothers series. Forbidden was originally published in 1997 by Bantam Loveswept.

Though coming from humble beginnings, the Daniels family has lived in relative peace and prosperity. And while they are Jewish, they call themselves Persians and, for 2,500 years, declare Iran as their home. Though imperfect (then again, what is?), they have enjoyed the benefits of the shah¿s rule, with his forward-looking policy for Iran. Then came Ayatollah Khomeini¿s rise to power and his subsequent takeover of this ancient land of Iran. Disillusioned students, hiding behind the fervor of their philosophical and religious convictions, as well as opportunistic rebels and people without morals or conscience, flocked to the ayatollah¿s side, performing under his banner acts of atrocities and violence that set the country backward. And out of all this, the Daniels family, including many others, is caught in the middle, targeted by malicious people under the guise of their so-called revolution.

?Of course it would be folly to argue that the people cannot make political mistakes. They can and do make grave mistakes. They know it, they pay the penalty, but compared with the mistakes which have been made by every kind of autocracy they are unimportant. Oftentimes the inconvenience and loss fall on the innocent. This is all a part of the price of freedom. Unless the people struggle to help themselves, no one else will or can help them. It is out of such struggle that there comes the strongest evidence of their true independence and nobility, and there is struck off a rough and incomplete economic justice, and there develops a strong and rugged national character. It represents a spirit for which there could be no substitute. It justifies the claim that they are worthy to be free.? Calvin Coolidge
