Tribal biblical interpretation is a developing area of study that is concerned with reading the Bible through the eyes of tribal people. While many studies of reading the Bible from the reader's social, cultural and historical location have been made in various parts of the world, no thorough study that offers a coherent and substantive methodology for tribal biblical interpretation has been made. This book is the first comprehensive work that offers a description of tribal biblical interpretation and shows its application by making a lucid reading of Matthew's infancy narrative from a tribal reader's perspective. Using reader-response criticism as his primary method, Zhodi Angami brings his tribal context of North East India into conversation with Matthew's account of the birth of Jesus. Since tribal people of North East India see themselves as living under colonial rule, a tribal reader sees Matthew's text as a narrative that actively resists and subverts imperial rule. Likewise, the tribal experience of living at the margins inspires a tribal reader to look at the narrative from the underside, from the perspective of those who are sidelined, ignored, belittled or forgotten. Tribal biblical interpretation presented here follows a process of conversation between tribal worldview and Matthew's narrative. Such a method animates the text for the tribal reader and makes the biblical narrative not only more intelligible to the tribal reader but allows the text to speak directly to the tribal context.

"[Here is] the Genesis for our generation and beyond."—Robert Fagles Genesis begins with the making of heaven and earth and all life, and ends with the image of a mummy—Joseph's—in a coffin. In between come many of the primal stories in Western culture: Adam and Eve's expulsion from the garden of Eden, Cain's murder of Abel, Noah and the Flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham's binding of Isaac, the covenant of God and Abraham, Isaac's blessing of Jacob in place of Esau, the saga of Joseph and his brothers. In Robert Alter's brilliant translation, these stories cohere in a powerful narrative of the tortuous relations between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, eldest and younger brothers, God and his chosen people, the people of Israel and their neighbors. Alter's translation honors the meanings and literary strategies of the ancient Hebrew and conveys them in fluent English prose. It recovers a Genesis with the continuity of theme and motif of a wholly conceived and fully realized book. His insightful, fully informed commentary illuminates the book in all its dimensions.

Floyd Hale's answers to Bible questions are not only edifying but delightful. Hale has a common touch that communicates easily with his audience. I also appreciate his including the occasional letter to the editor which lambastes him for some point of view. I think this book makes a real contribution to the understanding of our Holy Scriptures. John S. Spong, retired Bishop, Episcopal Church Floyd Hale's thorough and competent use of contemporary biblical studies and historical criticism has often landed him in hot water with readers of a more conservative and fundamentalist persuasion here in America's Bible belt. The combination of unorthodox theology and folksy style is provocative and insightful. In the emotional heat of reaction, some of his readers miss the subtle humor enjoyed by others. The wit and wisdom of these articles are mixed with uncommon courage. Not many pastors with Floyd's knowledge of the Bible are willing to risk the pain associated with sharing it in a public forum. William B. Lewis, retired Bishop, United Methodist Church This collection of Floyd Hale's newspaper columns - 'The Bible Says' - should prove refreshing and stimulating, not to mention informative, to just about everybody. If you look for parallels in baseball and the Bible, you will find them! The Emerald Home Run is a true story which combines the Bible and a book author Steven A. Janda wrote about the parables of Christ in 2008 entitled Ready or Not, Here I Come. “Suddenly,” says Janda, “I began to notice many interesting parallels in Major League Baseball.” On April 15, 2009, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 613th career home run, The Emerald Home Run, after returning to the Seattle Mariners from a nine-year absence with the Cincinnati Reds and briefly with the Chicago White Sox. As soon as Griffey hit the home run, Hall of Fame Announcer Dave Neihaus said this was Griffey’s 400th home run as a Mariner. “Instantly,” says Janda, “I remembered Moses, who delivered the children of Israel after 400 years of bondage to the Egyptians.” The author reveals numeric mysteries, including how Revelation appears in Genesis, how the tribes of Israel in the Law of Moses are joined numerically to Genesis and revealed in Major League Baseball by the Gregorian calendar. And children will love the secret formula for multiplying certain number patterns into millions without a calculator! The revelations in this book have never appeared in text books. The Emerald Home Run is truly an arithmetic lesson for the whole world to enjoy. Do not be left behind.

From school lunchrooms to the White House press room, video games are an integral part of our popular culture, and the industry behind them touches all aspects of our lives, gamer and non-gamer alike. Business and entertainment, health and medicine, politics and war, social interaction and education, all fall under its influence. Virtual Ascendance tells the story of a formerly fringe enterprise that, when few were paying attention, exploded into a multi-billion dollar industry affecting the very way we live. Griffiths paints a thorough and vivid picture of the video game industry, illuminating the various, and often bizarre, ways it’s changing how we work, play and live. He brings readers along on his own journey of discovery, from the back room of a small Irish pub where members of the second-largest industry enclave meet each month, to a university clinic where the Wii is being used to treat Parkinson’s sufferers — and everywhere in between. Virtual Ascendance is more than just a story about video games, though. It’s the story of an awakening, of a realization that a childhood pastime has exploded into a thriving enterprise — one rooted in entertainment but whose tendrils reach into virtually all aspects of life and society.

In "The Birth of a Blessing: A Fertile Spirit, the author compares the Spiritual Birth process with the natural birth process. He takes us on a journey step by step that demonstrates Gods work in us and through us as well as how to strengthen our faith in Him. No believer, man or woman is excluded from spiritual pregnancy. For every believer has the right to spiritual blessings. Believers must nurture the special "seed" that is planted within them until it is mature enough to be delivered. God has prepared a special blessing for those who love and trust Him. As with natural pregnancy, the first trimester is the most critical. During the earlier stage, the enemy lurks in every corner waiting to snatch the seed of the word of God out of the believer like the seed that fell on stony ground. That seed was initially received with joy just like the natural news of pregnancy. However, if the seed is not planted deeply, the seed cannot take root, as it should. Moreover, when trouble comes, the initial enthusiasm is lost and the pregnancy is aborted. This book examines the development of the believers faith and spiritual strength. The full- term birthing of the blessing is the most anticipated part. By the time it comes to fruition, believers are certain of their spiritual convictions and faith in God and have gained confidence. This, however, does not guarantee them freedom from trials and temptation. Satan is always around to put doubt in the hearts of believers, no matter how strong or weak their faith is. This book is filled with the Word of God and the works of God. It provides clear and concise help in bringing understanding to the preparation that precedes the blessings that God has promised for our lives. Not only is this book a valuable resource for every believer truly seeking to know the will of God and walk in it, but it is also a powerful teaching tool that will benefit ministry groups of any size. I pray that this book will aid in bringing about a supernatural revelation that will change your life forever. What God has for you, is for you.
