In IAU Symposium 282, members of the exoplanet and binary star communities unite for the first time to discuss the state-of-the-art discovery, imaging, modeling and analysis tools used to study stars, brown dwarfs and exoplanets in multiple-object systems. They describe detection techniques using advanced telescopes and detectors, including the Kepler mission and the proposed Gaia and LSST projects. Imaging techniques discussed include adaptive optics, interferometry, polarimetry and tomography, while key modeling tools are covered in detail. Other topics include simulations of formation mechanisms in binary star systems, non-conservative evolution of binary stars, the formation and evolution of planets and a theory for the structure, atmospheres and evolution of giant exoplanets. The volume concludes with hydrodynamic simulations, models of planetary atmospheres and the habitability of exoplanets. These proceedings demonstrate how sophisticated modeling codes bridge the gap between theory and observations and increase our understanding of binary and multiple systems.

In the 12 years since the first discovery of an exoplanet around a main sequence star (51 Peg), more than 270 exoplanets have been detected. The proceedings of IAU Symposium 249 present the latest theoretical and observational advances in the field of exoplanet research, including the ongoing and future projects such as CoRoT and Kepler. The volume opens with a review of exoplanet detection and orbital determination techniques, before looking at the physics of gas giant atmospheres and close-in stars. The topics of planet formation, migration and the dynamical evolution of protoplanetary disks and multi-planet systems are also covered in detail. IAU S249 is a useful reference for the graduate students and researchers working in the exciting field of exoplanet study.

The discovery of planets around stars other than the Sun within the past 15 years has opened up one of the largest and most exciting new fields in modern astronomy. The transit method of detecting exoplanets has revealed more information about individual planets than any other method of detection. This volume, the proceedings of IAU Symposium 253, contains a description of the latest development in the field of transiting extrasolar planets. Topical reviews and short contributions from more than one hundred authors present the latest results in the field, from the photometric transit searches for transiting planets, through observational studies of these planets, to the consequences for theories of planet formation, evolution and planetary atmospheres. Presenting the latest research, it is an important resource for graduate students and researchers working in astronomy and planetary sciences.

The First Stars written by Volker Bromm and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-07 with Science categories.

The formation of the first stars (Pop III stars) and galaxies is one of the great outstanding challenges in modern astrophysics and cosmology. The first stars are likely key drivers for early cosmic evolution and will be at the center of attention over the next decade. The best available space and ground-based telescopes like the Hubble Space Telescope probe the Universe to high redshifts and provide us with tantalizing hints; but they cannot yet directly detect the first generation of stars and the formation of the first galaxies. This is left as key science for future telecopes like the James Webb Space Telescope. This book is based in part on classroom tested lectures related to Pop III stars, but also draws from the author's review articles of the main physical principles involved. The book will thus combine pedagogical introductory chapters with more advanced ones to survey the cutting-edge advances from the frontier of research. It covers the theory of first star formation, the relation between first stars and dark matter, their impact on cosmology, their observational signatures, the transition to normal star formation as well as the assembly of the first galaxies. It will prepare students for interpreting observational findings and their cosmological implications.
