The interdisciplinary approach so popular today is more than a matter of fashion. It is, in fact, a reflection of the recognition that a good many areas once considered ade quately treated by one or the other of the traditional disciplines straddle the boundaries of several. Interdisciplinary research then is, by definition, a coop erative venture by several autonomous branches of science into areas incompletely accessible to anyone of them. By stimulating cooperation among several related disciplines, such research may serve to enrich each of them; but, on the other hand, the existence of these border areas occa sionally serves as Ii, pretext for postponing the solution of seemingly insurmountable problems. Brain research seems to have become such a border area of science. The fortress of classical psychology is being assaulted before our very eyes, its peripheral and even its more integral areas being invaded by physiology, morphol ogy, physics, and chemistry. Neurophysiology, too, has ceased to be an autonomous and self-governing field, and has come increasingly to rely on the help proffered by gen eral psychology, epistemology, and logic, as well as exact sciences such as mathematics and physics. These border assaults have undoubtedly been beneficial for all involved. 9 Within the traditional boundaries of their stuffy principles most classical disciplines are today facing a methodological and epistemological crisis. The breaching of their walls may at least hold out some hope of a renaissance.

This book is an interdisciplinary exploration of the relationship between perception and action, with a focus on the debate about the dual visual systems hypothesis, against action oriented theories of perception.

The lens of perception--the part of human consciousness that experiences reality--is a core concept in virtually every spiritual and psychological tradition, from ancient Buddhism to Native American shamanism to Jungian psychology. Hal Zina Bennett proposes that if we can comprehend and harness this consciousness, we can shape our experiences and fulfill our greatest potential. By deconstructing the inner workings of the human mind, this skillfully written book unravels the Gordian knot of reality itself. A guided tour of human consciousness that takes the reader from individual self-awareness to becoming the co-creator of reality. An underground cult favorite that was way ahead of its time, reissued as a New Thought classic in a freshly revised third edition. Thanks to the success of the film What the Bleep Do We Know!?, which has grossed over $12 million and inspired hundreds of online discussion groups, "alternative consciousness" is hot again.

The papers in this volume of Consciousness & Emotion Book Series are organized around the theme of "enaction." Enactive emotional processes are not merely the recipients of information or the passive victims of input and learning. The organism first is engaged in an ongoing, complex pattern of self-organizational activity, for the purpose of maintaining a dynamical continuity of pattern across changes of subserving micro-constituents and environmental conditions, making use of multiple shunt mechanisms, feedback loops, and other complex dynamical features. Self-organizational structure is used to distinguish between action and mere reaction. Accordingly, the papers of this volume by leading students of emotion such as Jaak Panksepp, Luc Ciompi, Thomas Natsoulas, Farzaneh Pahlavan, Michela Balconi, Todd Lubart, Louise Sundararajan, Jordan Petersen and others address three main issues: I. Emotional influences on perception and thought II. Agency and choice III. Agency and moral value

Sensory perception: mind and matter aims at a deeper understanding of the many facets of sensory perception and their relations to brain function and cognition. It is an attempt to promote the interdisciplinary discourse between the neurosciences and psychology, which speaks the language of cognitive experiences, and philosophy, which has been thinking about the meaning and origin of consciousness since its beginning. Leading experts contribute to such a discourse by informing the reader about exciting modern developments, both technical and conceptual, and by pointing to the big gaps still to be bridged. The various chapters provide access to scientific research on sensory perception and the mind from a broad perspective, covering a large spectrum of topics which range from the molecular mechanisms at work in sensory cells to the study of the unconscious and to neurophilosophy.

Alternating Consciousness written by Claus Janew and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-06-07 with Philosophy categories.

Could it be that our consciousness is not simply a product of the brain, but the result of an all-encompassing alternation between individuals and the universe? In this innovative book, Claus Janew proposes the groundbreaking idea of the "i-structure" or "infinitesimality structure", a concept that elegantly combines four seemingly disparate perspectives to explain the fundamental nature of consciousness and reality. In a riveting dialogue, Janew explores how the continuous interplay of collective and individual awareness, the infinite and the infinitesimal, the determinacy and indeterminacy of free will, gives rise to our experience of a stable and yet endlessly creative world. With remarkable clarity and insight, he tackles age-old philosophical problems such as the existence of free will, the subjectivity of consciousness, and the relationship between self and other. "Alternating Consciousness" is an incredible journey that takes the reader from the basics of the i-structure to its far-reaching implications for our understanding of reality. Janew's pioneering vision not only bridges the gap between science and spirituality but also offers a fresh perspective on the nature of our existence.
