Psycho-Logic is an attempt to formulate explicitly the implicit common-sense psychology embedded in everyday language and taken for granted by its users. The key concepts in this system are given definitions, and the basic assumptions are presented in the form of axioms. A number of corollaries and theorems are formally proved. The text also contains numerous notes in which the formal propositions and their broader implications are discussed. It is assumed that the relationship between psycho-logic and empirical psychology is analogous to that existing between geometry and geography. Psycho-logic and geometry both provide a formal system in terms of which one may describe and analyze respectively psychological phenomena and geographical terrains. The book should be of particular interest to practicing psychologists since it provides an analysis of the main characteristics of persons and person-interactions, emphasizing such concepts as care, respect, understanding and control.

This book confronts the barriers that face the cross-cultural application of western psychotherapy. It puts forward an argument for applying culture analysis, in which the therapist analyses the inconsistencies within the client's culture, before applying psychoanalysis, in which the analyst analyses the intra-psychic conflicts.

You've met a new man who seems too good to be true. He's charming, confident and impulsive. He shares so much in common with you and you seem to be the perfect match. But things aren't quite as they seem; you soon realise his charm doesn't run deep, he gets bored easily, he's irresponsible and he has a string of exes and one night stands in his wake, he thinks a lot of himself but little of others. Or perhaps your boss takes too many big risks and treats you like a pawn in their game or your friend is always asking favours of you. The psychopath in your life is probably in disguise - they could be your lover, your child, your colleague, your friend or the hot new date you've met on the internet. So how do you know if someone close to hand isn't quite who they seem? For fans of Jon Ronson's The Psychopath Test, in The Psychopath in Your Life, forensic psychologist Kerry Daynes explains the psyche of a psychopath, she reveals the behavioural traits they share in common and she gives advice on how to handle them - or better still, how to avoid them at all costs. The poet creates mental life in suggesting it to the soul of the reader; only the man who decomposes it afterward is a psychologist. The poet works as life works; the child who smiles and weeps causes us to think of pleasure and pain, too, but it offers us no psychological understanding of pleasure and pain. Just so the poet smiles and weeps, and if he is a great artist, with strong suggestive power, he forces our minds to feel with him, while we have only an intellectual interest if he merely analyzes the emotions...-from "Psychology and Art"Whether or not you approve of the culture of mass psychology that resulted from the work of Hugo M nsterberg, his continuing impact on American society is inestimable. Clinical Psychology is a graduate-level introduction to the field of clinical psychology. While most textbooks focus on either assessment, treatment, or research, this textbook covers all three together specifically for the introductory level graduate course. Chapter coverage is diverse and contributors come from both PhD and PsyD programs and a variety of theoretical orientations. Chapter topics cover the major activities of the contemporary clinical psychologist with an introduction focusing on training models. The book has a mentoring style designed to highlight the relevance of the topics discussed to clinicians in training. Assessment and treatment chapters focus on evidence-based practice, comparing and contrasting different options, the basis for clinical choice between them, and efficacy of same. It will also introduce the business and ethical aspects of the clinical career that current introductory books do not include, such ethics in assessment, treatment, and research; third party payers; technological developments; dissemination of research findings; cross-cultural issues; and the future of the profession. The text is designed for students in their first year of clinical psychology graduate training. * Includes assessment, treatment, and practice issues * Compares and contrasts different therapeutic styles * Exemplifies practical application through case studies * Focuses on evidence-based practice * Orients future clinicians to contemporary issues facing psychological practices
